7 counties in the panhandle -- as well as the jacksonville school district --have all cancelled school today because of the expected to roll through--the reason for the closure--is the threat of high winds now severe storms parts of lousisiana-- mississippi- and least 3 people were killed and many more were injured. one of the hardest hit areas --convent, louisiana--that's about an hour west of new orleans--two people were killed and 30 others injured at an rv park now rescuers spents the day searching for people trapped or wounded for the schools that are closed today- area superintendents close hearing a national weather service. florida state right now are both still open but officials are urging students to constantly be checking for updates donald trump is building momentum this morning. the billionaire as the winner of the republican nevada

trump spent tuesday night at a caucus event in nevada celebrating his victory. 30 delegates are at stake in the state. the race between texas senator ted cruz and florida senator marco rubio is still too close to call. today an accused drunk driver -- who was also going the wrong way -- is out of jail. a judge is ordering him to stay sober. take a look at this video: a sarasota county squad car camera captured the driver speeding up the breakdown lane of i-75.. as fast as 70 miles an hour. the man didn't even brake for the deputy. other deputies stopped him after he exited the wrong way onto the county road 681 on ramp. investigators say 21 year old ryan fleury had been driving the wrong way at least 6 miles. he had a blood alcohol level of point-2-8... 3-and-a-half times the legal limit.

wrong-way driver, deputies say slow down, move in the opposite direction, pull over in a safe spot, and call 911 with a good description of the car. this is really a bizarre story. police in houston, texas are investigating a situation that ended with a machete- wielding suspect dead. cell phone video caught it all happen on tuesday. police say the man was angry that he missed the bus and started stabbing gas tanks with the machete. they tried to taze him but that didn't work. witnesses say the man then started charging the officers. one officer was hit with the flat part of the machete but wasn't hurt. detectives are now looking into the man's mental state. tonight-- a last ditch effort for folks who drive on a busy, dangerous intersection in hillsborough county to voice their complaints. work is set to start in just a few days to make the

linebaugh avenue safer and less congested. but things will get worse before they get better. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live at the intersection in carrollwood. sarah, drivers will have to deal with 8 months of frustration. yes, that's how long it will take them to rip up this area and greatly improve it for the 60-thousand people who drive through here each and every day. traffic, in the meantime, is expected to be a mess. one huge complaint: these turn lanes. people wait through several lights before they are able to turn and it backs up traffic during the morning and afternoon rush hour for blocks. tonight-- the county will meet with people who live and work in this area to let them know what to expect during construction that starts in a few days. if you're wondering just how bad this intersection is, ask antoinette newsome. she drives through it every day to and from work and what should take her 10 minutes to get to

the country, including right here in florida! they say super lice can't be killed with a chemical used in most over-the- counter treatments. they suggest the best treatment is prevention, so tell your kids not to share hats or hairbrushes. if your child does get lice, experts say you should not freak out and start sanitizing your house. they suggest vacuuming the floors, especially where hair falls. wash bedding in hot water and throw stuffed animals and clothing in a hot dryer for 20 to 30 minutes. space x is expected to launch a rocket today carrying its heaviest satellite yet. experts say the launch of the commercial communications satellite from cape canaveral is the next step in spacex's recovery from a failed falcon 9 launch last summer. space x will try to land the rocket on a ocean platform about 400 miles offshore. if the weather is good, the launch is expected at 6:46 p-m.

mornings are busy...and sometimes you're scrambling to make breakfast. we're going to give you a way to get free breakfast this morning. in less than a hour, chick-fil-a is offering everyone who visits one of its tampa bay locations a free breakfast item. however, you won't know which item until you get there. and there's a possibility the chain will mix it up each hour. breakfast is from 6-30 to 10-30. this is a difficult story to hear this morning -- and it's probably one of you shaking your it shocked us in the newsroom. police in south carolina have charged two teens they say shot a puppy with a b-b gun 18 times. thankfully, the six-week-old puppy, named brody lived and is recovering at an animal hospital. x-rays show the bb's are still inside the lab-mix, but his doing okay.

deadly tornadoes in the deep south is now moving east. the town of convent, louisiana was hit especially hard-- as a possible tornado tore through a trailer park. reported tornadoes also caused severe damage in mississippi -- where several homes in one county were leveled. severe weather also hit florida with some people hurt in the panhandle area. some schools in that area and in jacksonville have cancelled classes today ahead of the storms. all eyes are on the super tuesday states. this comes after c-b-s news projects donald trump as the winner of the republican nevada caucus. as trump continues to gain more voters, the rest of the g-o-p field are trying to become his alternative. entrance polls show a majority of caucus-goers who favored a candidate with more political experience backed marco rubio over ted cruz. they'll face trump in their next debate tomorrow night in texas. a traffic nightmare is about to start on a busy area in carrollwood. construction will soon begin on the intersection gunn highway and linebaugh ave. today, hillsbough county will talk to those who live and work in that area on

if cats could talk, this one would have quite the story to tell. nadia, a russian blue cat, traveled from wisconsin to naples, florida at some point within the last two months, and her owners have no idea how. a naples woman found nadia and took her to get her microchip checked. they found out where she was from and contacted her owners. nadia's owners are trying to find a way for someone to bring their cat back up to them in wisconsin. if that's not possible, they plan to catch a flight to
