good morning, it's i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. one week after president-elect donald trump earned his new title as commander in chief...people all across the country are still angry and many are protesting the election.

live in the newsroom. emerald, the intensity of the protests has lessened some, but the frustration many people feel is still forcing them into the streets. yeah, we're still seeing people all across the country exercise their constitutional right to protest. one group that's now making headlines...high school students. hundreds staged walk-outs yesterday to show they were not standing for the divisive rhetoric of hate, racism and sexism they say donald trump showed throughout his campaign. these protests took place in california, maryland and in oregon... and while most of these students are not even old enough to vote, they say their voices still matter. one of their big concerns...especiall y among hispanic will minority communities be treated by the new president? and will his supporters who have used his comments to perpetuate hate use what he's said to defend their attacks? mr. trump has used social media to call out demonstrators protesting his election... and many of you on our facebook page have done the same...

we reported that more than half of the protesters arrested in portland, oregon did not vote. jen martin said, "everyone has the right to protest, under the first amendment. if they didn't vote they look dumb, but that is their right." to be clear...that only amounts to about 70 of the more than 4000 people who took to the streets. this is a topic of course that has a lot of you riled up. we welcome your comments on our facebook page... so if you haven't weighed in already, so. i'll be back at 6 with more of your thoughts. president-elect donald trump will meet with vice- president elect mike pence in new york today. the two continue to work on their transition to the white house. a campaign source tells cbs news former new york city mayor rudy giuliani is the favorite to be secretary of state. despite backlash... mr. trump is standing by his decision to appoint right-wing media mogul, steve bannon, to the job of chief strategist saying he's embraced diversity throughout his

2018 seems like a long time away-- but already this morning, the race for florida's top job is shaping up. a new name could be on the list: attorney john morgan. oh yeah....and all big names. representative gwen graham tampa mayor bob buckhorn and...commissioner of agriculture adam putnam. now add orlando attorney john morgan to that list. you've heard probably hundreds of his "morgan and morgan" commercials over the years, but now he's really gained momentum with voters after succeddfully getting medical marijuana to pass. morgan was one of the main guys behind the push to get it legalized. people are gathering signatures to get morgan on the

times per day a type one diabetic has to prick their finger and draw blood to test their insulin levels. emily conrad has dealt with the disease since she was six and says the shirt is great at starting a conversation about type 1 diabetes and the risks and challenges associated with it. administrators at plant high made her take off the shirt, calling it offensive. the same shirt won first place last spring as the best t-shirt design at a diabetes walk. do you think twice about giving out your phone number? you should. 10 news reporter kendra conlon explains how thieves are swiping your identity through your digits.

this story is going to make you smile this morning. a little boy from plano, texas made a unique bond with a man he gets to see every week. 2 year old lance, wheels his mini recycling bin out to the curb every monday. you see it sits right next to the family's garbage can. every week he waits with a smile for his friend james the trash man.

with a wave and it quickly blossomed. james gave his buddy a city toy bank and he hasn't put it down since. lance even dressed as james recycling bin and a matching reflective vest that he now uses for monday trash collection. james says it makes him happy when someone likes what you do.

the hallways and spirits at a colorado high school are brighter thanks to some students. a group of freshman covered all 900 lockers with these neon post-its. they wrote uplifting messages for their fellow students. one reads "you got this". another one says "you are loved". the list goes on and on. the students said they wanted to ease the tension and frustration following the election. they say they'll do it again if the student body is in need of a unifying

recently premiered in hollywood. a blue carpet welcomed the stars of disney's new animated film moana. the film follows moana on her epic quest across the ocean to save her people with the help of a demigod known as maui. dwane johnson who is the voice of maui says the movie showcases a culture that hasn't been shown in films. critics accused disney of perpetuating polynesian stereotypes and a halloween costume depicting maui was pulled from stores after complains. the tv nominees for the 22nd annual critics choice awards are announced. the f-x series the people versus o-j simpson got six nominations. game of thrones got five helping h- b-o grab 22 nominations. and one of our favorites late night shows is up for a nomination. the late late show with james corden got nominated for best talk show, which is one of seven nominations received by c-b-s. the winners of the critics choice awards will be
