on the scoreboard. their top rookie went down in the final quarter. 4th quarter it's a williams battle, trent going up against mario. trent gets beat but also gets injured. a couple mayors fall on him. once he's -- players fall on him of once he's down he suffers an injured left foot, knee and left toe. the good news, trainers tested his acl on the field and passed the test. williams will undergo the mri tomorrow. for more on the injured pride of the team, here's our own lindsay murphy. >> reporter: 20-7, the halftime score and the most points the redskins have scored in a 1st half since week 16 back in 2007. the 2nd half was a different story and the result a stunning loss to the houston texans. >> that really hurts. that's coming from myself and a lot of other players. they escaped with a victory. they got lucky. i feel like they got lucky, that we let this one slip. >> reporter: there were multiple game changing plays.

the biggest? andre johnson's 34-yard touchdown with 2:03 left in the game tying the score at 27. >> make the play. get my hand in between the ball, jump up, create havoc. maybe if he outjumps me, hit the ball out when he's coming down, try to hit it at the high point. >> special teams two more daggers, first a blocked field goal with 6:40 left in the 4th quarter. then in overtime graham gano nailed a 52-yarder but only after the texans called a time- out. on his second attempt the ball would sail wide right. >> he's a good young kicker. we got a lot of faith in him. that's why we let him kick that field goal. obviously things happen. he didn't hit it right and that's something we all got to live. with. >> reporter: tonight an epic battle of the arms as both quarterbacks throw for more than 400 yards. that's the first time it's been done since 1994 in an nfl game. from fedex field, lindsay murphy, fox 5 sports. >> in week one it was the

redskins defense that carried the load. week two they were the weak link. not that the texans were any slouch. matt schaub threw for 497 yards but the redskins defense allowed the texans to score 20 straight points and that doesn't sit well with the skins that work on that side of the ball. >> they had a great offensive performance by donovan. our team in general, you give us 27 points, that's more than enough. you know, that's more than enough to win a football game. it's very tough because it's on us as defense. we didn't get the job done today. >> the offense came out here and played outstanding football. we won't win playing the kind of defense we played today. that's why we lost. >> that simple. time now for another break. when we return how did the cowboys fare in their home opener gets the bayer? skins fans maybe got some good

to reach the super bowl. the cowboys did it back in 1993, but they didn't want to put themselves in a similar situation with the bears. today rookie dez bryant takes if not at the 38. finds the seam -- the punt at the 38, find the seam. 2nd quarter bears trail 14-10, jay cutler, devin hester, 9 yards on the catch. bears beat the cowboys 27-20. dallas is 0-2. who said skins fans didn't get any good news? >> any time you get in this position it's very difficult. you know, we got to climb our way out of this. you sit there and wonder if you're ever going to win a football game when you get to this point and i think that's whatnot you'd expect going into the season. it's frustrating -- not what you'd expect going into the season. it's frustrating. we got to do things better and we need to figure out in a hurry. eagles visiting the lions,

michael vick making his first nfl start since december, 2006. 1st quarter vick drops back, finds desean jackson who speeds past everyone to the end zone. vick 21-34, 284 yards, two touchdowns. eagles up 7 -0. jackson gives the ball to vick. vick says no, you take it. me, who? 4th quarter eagles up 28-17. lesean mccoy 45 yards. eagles hold on for the win 35- 32 the final. brett favre's vikings hosting the dolphins 3rd quarter minnesota down 7 -0. favre sacked up in his own end zone, goes to throw, hit, fumbles. miami recovers. it's a touchdown, four favre turnovers on the day it. vikings lose 14-10. baltimore ravens started the season strong at least defensively with a win over the jets monday. today they faced a bengal team that beat them in both their meetings last year. second straight road game to start the season for baltimore.

3rd quarter ravens trail 6-0. joe flacco goes up the right side to derrick mason. 31 yards for the touchdown. ravens took a 7-6 lead. later in the 4th quarter ravens trail 12-10. flacco's pass hits and picked by brandon johnson. led to a fifth cinci field goal. flacco with a career high four picks. the bengals defeat the ravens 15-10. from the afc north to an afc east battle patriots visiting the jets, tom brady looking deep for randy moss and moss waffles. one handed. spectacular. it wouldn't be enough, though. jets beat the pats 28-14. opportunity lost, sadly when we return, the man that threw for four bills returns to put today's fedex field loss in some perspective.

>> i'm a competitor and i hate losing. it doesn't matter if i pass for 4 or 500 yards or i pass for 100 something. it's about winning and that's what the bottom line is. at the end of the season it's about really wins and loss. i mean who's got eight, nine, 10 wins get in the playoffs or who's not able to get in and i think this team is talented enough where we can be able to bounce back after a game like this and get this thing rolling and i look forward to obviously being able to lead that for these guys. >> next sunday it's a 4:15 tilt with the st. louis rams right here on fox. the rams lost to the raiders 16- 14. by the way, jason campbell yanked in that game. have a good night. i'll see you tomorrow.
