>> this is fox 5 news edge at 11:00. and thank you for staying with us. i'm maureen umeh. each the top tonight just two days until the new hampshire primary and gop hopefuls are hitting the campaign trail hard. they're all after the same thing, undecided voters. fox's steve brown takes a look at whether a pair of weekend debates did anything to sway those voters. >> i spent a little bit of time this morning and i spent all of last night watching the die bait of. reporter: that makes evan drew -- debate of. reporter: that makes evan drew like a lot of voters in new hampshire. >> debates. i think this year is more on debates. reporter: it's suggested three of four every independent here spends some or a lot of time watching the gop presidential debates. >> i think social media in addition to the debates has been my no.

1 focus of. reporter: all those retail politicking events in new hampshire, according to research two/3 of voters don't go in-- 2/3 of voters don't go instead relying on debates and their own independent research. >> we get online. we have access to this all the time. reporter: jeff bradley who advises the mitt romney campaign on independent voter outreach is mailed to an independent voter. >> when there's a piece of mail to me, there's one to her. when there's a phone call to me, there's another one for her. reporter: there's two things new hampshire independents say they're looking for now. >> issues one and two are economy and jobs by a long shot. >> people have to work two jobs. i had to work two jobs this year for the first time ever. i have a master's degree. i had to do catering to make extra money. reporter: one other thing about independents, their debate driven decision who to vote for tuesday will likely come late. >> i really haven't decided yet

i must admit. i'm usually already set by the time we get this close, but i really have built decided yet. reporter: now that end pent voter -- have not decided yet. reporter: now that end pent voter at the beginning of this -- independent voter at the beginning of this story, he's for romney, right? nope. still undecided. he says it's between romney and ron paul. steve brown, fox news. our top story tonight, it's been a year since congresswoman gabrielle giffords survived a shot to the head and tonight she's sharing a message of strength to the country. she visited the tucson, arizona grocery store where jared lee loughner shot 19 people. giffords doesn't remember the shooting, but others will never forget. >> there was an eerie quiet that morning. there was kay contract on but no panic. everyone was doing something critically useful and they were doing it calmly and quietly. >> giffords came to a candlelight vigil to-or the victims. she also took a phone -- to

honor the victims. she also took it a phone call from president obama who called her an inspiration. in syria, another deadly day of violence. a teenage boy is set to be at hands of troops. reporter: syrian forces attempted to break up anti- government protests in damascus by firing water cannons into the crowd, demonstrators beaten and dragged into a police car. in other parts of syria they chanted against the regime. syrian president bashar assad said security forces would crush the rebellion with an iron fist. after 26 people were killed in a suicide bombing attack friday in the heart of damascus. thousands attended the usuals, some holding pictures of a -- funerals, some holding pictures of assad. the opposition blames the government for staging the blast. at least seven people were killed this weekend in clashes

with security forces adding to the more than 5,000 dead since the violence started last march. arab league observers looking into the humanitarian situation in syria found themselves trapped between anti-government groups and the army. meanwhile in egypt crowds gathered outside the arab lead headquarters demanding action be taken against assad's regime. arab league foreign ministers and mon fors met in cairo today -- monitors met in cairo today and urged all parties to some violence immediately, something that's unlikely to happen. everywhere at 11:00 starting in maryland where a group of hunters including one who got shot being charged. four friends charged after a hunting accident that left a man in the hospital in port washington, maryland. the victim was hit in the chest and stomach with buck shut. hunting is illegal in that area, so police say he and everyone he was with will be charged. gun sales in virginia hit a

record high in 2011 with shoppers buying more firearms in december than ever before. mandatbackground checks on gun buyers show more than 320,000 gun transactions last year. bre riders have to wait for wireless internet. the wi-fi proposal has been tabled at least for now. the service's ceo is not convinced riders will use it or the service would be reliable. it was the worst airshow accident in american history. now the crash in reno last december is prompting the national transportation safety board to hold a hearing. the ntsb wants to determine how much risk is too much at airshows. the crash in reno killed 11 people and badly injured about 70 more. there are different types of shows, some riskier than others. regulations might take that into consideration. it's a girl for beyonce,

when we were hitting near 70 degrees. it was unbelievable. today was fairly mild, 52 degrees at national airport, 50 at dulles, 51 degrees at bwi. we should only be in the low 40s. we're pretty close to that now. it's 41 degrees at annapolis, 37 baltimore, 38 at d.c. we've got 35 at dulles, only 27 at manassas this hour. that's the same story for frederick. ridge of high pressure in control, but we've got clouds that have pushed their way through into the course of today and tonight. we're getting mostly clear skies now behind it all, that ridge holding us through tonight until tomorrow. we've got a disturbance to the south of us. it's going to gradually move its way north and with it there's going to be some moisture. we could see some showers, mainly to the south as we head into tomorrow, but also depending on the temperatures and the timing we could see a passing flurry. i'm not talking about any accumulation whatsoever, but look at futurecast. it shows you as the moisture moves its way in from the south, we get a little rain and

over to the west we start to see light snow and a little bit of mix as well with that. here's a look at the 5:00 to 7:00 hour. you can see as we head into the d.c. area we see a little bit of that edging its way through till about 8:00 when it's out of the way. we're not talking any major accumulation. this is just a 20% chance of seeing this happen. we're just keeping an eye on it for you. wednesday is the wet day, plenty of wet weather moving in wednesday, locally heavy areas of rainfall where we could see up to an inch of accumulation. be prepared, definitely have to have your umbrella handy when it comes to hump day. here's a look at five-day forecast. we warm up back to the low 50s by tuesday into wednesday. thursday 53 degrees, some lingering showers in the early part of the day and then the cooler air starts to head in by the weekend looking at 39 degrees for a daytime high and i want it tell you when we get to the middle of the weekend, our lows are only going to be in the 20s. be prepared. it's a reality check.
