how tough the journey. in washington, beth parker, fox 5 news. >> we wish him well. >> yeah. the news tonight is far from over. >> the news edge at 11 gets going now. and thank you for staying with us. i'm maureen umeh. >> i'm will a string of purse snatchings from local gas stations continues and tonight, we're hearing from one of the victims. >> the police tell us that -- the victim tells us that the police don't seem to be interested in her case. john henrehan has more. >> reporter: purse snatchings are a common occurrence that at this service station, the owners put up a sign warning women to keep their handbags with them at all times even while pumping gas. security video from a sunoco station taken on wednesday shows a thief exiting from an suv that circled the parking
lot. he leaves his door open. at the victim's car, he reaches in through the passenger window, grabs the purse and he and his driver are off the lot within seconds. there were four more purse snatchings from stations in prince georges countiy in succeeding days. it happens in d.c., too. this young woman who asked her irk dentity be masked, lost a purse at the exxon station on alabama and southeast on july 16th. there was a more menacing aspect to this incident. >> one of the guys opened my car door and went n. another guy that was inside of the car waived a gun toward me to let me know he had a gun and they just grabbed my stuff and sped off. >> reporter: our victim had an iphone in her purse. using a locator application, she tracked it. detectives, she said, were disinterested and called 911. the responding officers told her they could not figure out who owned what phone.
no seizure, no arrest. our victim said she repeatedly asked d.c.'s metropolitan police department to get a copy of the security video from the gas station where the robbery happened. there are six cameras there and the station's manager confirmed to us that police have not asked for security video from the july 16th incident. >> and if they investigated it properly, the outcome could have been different from what it is now. >> reporter: we brought the complainant's concerns to d.c. police and in a brief statement, the department said detectives continue their investigation. john henrehan, fox 5 news. the news o.j. virginia tonight where police are investigating a deadly armed robbery. it happened before midnight last night at capital jewelers. the police say they found a 52- year-old herndon man dead inside the store. they were responding to calls from the family and he never
returned home from work the night before. police are not releasing the cause of the death at this time. but they're releasing this. a picture of the suspect and these are surveillance photos from inside the jewelry store, according to police, anyway and they describe the suspect as an african-american man in his 50s b 5'7". if you know who he is orvo have any information concerning the crime, you are asked to call arlington police. and governor o'malley's calling for a special session to decide the future of gambling in this state. the special session would begin august 9th. lawmakers would consider a referendum allowing maryland to add a sixth casino and begin vegas-style table games which, are currently not allowed. >> and what they want to so is the other side. they want to make sure revenues are coming in for the state and this is going to create jobs. >> it would bring 99 in an extra $100 million in revenue
to maryland and create construction and permanent casino jobs. but the decision is ultimately up to maryland voters who would vote on the referendum in november. and everywhere at 11, starting tonight in peru, the bodies of two american mountain climbers were found. one is 32-year-old ben horn from annandale, virginia. he and his friend, a 29-year- old joe weiss from new york died after falling 1,000 feet off of the ridge. the rescuers say the bodies will be removed tomorrow. they have not been heard from since july 11th. mourners packed churches to remember two victims in the shooting spree at a colorado theatre. jessica growie, the aspiring journalist was buried in her hometown of san antonio, tex t. -- texas. matt mcquinn is other being laid to rest in ohio. he shieldd his girlfriend from the gun fire. the charges will be on monday.
there will be no cameras allowed in the courtroom that day and holmes is not expected to make statements. 12 people died and 58 others were wounded in the shooting. the tax cut today continue on capitol hill. democrats are pushing for extensions for those making less than $250,000 a year and foxee peter ducey has more. >> reporter: president obama said his tax plan would give everyone a tax break but for the top 2% of earners. republicans continue to say since the top 2% are the job creators, it would not be smart to take money out of their pockets. >> unfortunately, washington democrats' default position is to allow everyone's taxes sky rocket if congress doesn't agree to their plan to raise taxes on one of the most productive segments on our economy. >> reporter: president obama said that is not right. >> republicans in congress and their nominee for president believe that the best way to create prosperity in america is to let it trickle down from the
top. and they believe that if our country spends trillions more on tax cuts for the wealthy, they will create jobs. even if we have to pay for it like gutting things like education and training and by raising middle class taxes. they wrong. >> reporter: speaker boehner said next week, the house will vote to stop president obama's small business tax hike while laying the groundwork for pro growth tax reform that will help employers keep jobs in america and bring some jobs back to america that have gone overseas. the white house is not backing down. >> the president continues to insist that the proposals he's put forward that outside economists say would have an immediate impact on economic growth and an immediate impact on job creation must be passed by congress. >> if neither side budgees, almost every single taxpayer will see theirble go up on new year's day. the news edge is far from over. what did you think of the

. dicey earlier with some storms that pushed their way across the area. we had a severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 and our areas had some warnings with strong winds and hail and that is moving to the east and to the del marva getting hit and we're doing well and to our weather maps and into perspective what happened with the strong storms and some areas did get hit a bit and had some floe quarter -- three quarter-each hail and 1 and three quarter inch hail
in ann arundel county and gusting up to 16 miles an hour and that is calmer now but for areas across del marva and temperatures today, 97 degrees and 91 at bwi thurgood marshal and from 7 to 8 degrees above and they're going to stick around as well and it's 75 degrees at d.c.; 73 at gaithersburg and 72 degrees at fredericksburg this more. the same at hagerstown; 75, martinsburg and 76 degrees at annapolis. and we're talking about a little bit of a short wave that is going to affect us into the course of the next 24 hours or so and a low pressure system that is going to affect us and stick around for the five-day and that is going to set us up for a chance of storms and showers every day and tomorrow looks clear, though. a slight risk of showers and thunderstorms to the east. and i think we're going to be dry for the majority part of the day tomorrow with not too
