temperatures back. >> it's friday eve before the fourth of july holiday weekend and roads are quiet. i'll let you know if that changes. >> sounds good. 5 o'clock is the time. if you're just getting up let's catch up on the stories that were going on while you slept o breaking news from 46 street northeast in the district. the search for a killer after a man was shot to death there. police were called around 12:20 this morning. no word on who the victim is. police do have a lookout for a suspect but the description is pretty vague. >> vre confirms normal service will resume on manassas line this morning. this after a 13-year-old girl was tragically hit and killed. the teen who attended lake braddock secondary school was playing with her cousin yesterday afternoon on the tracks near bull run. sources tell fox5 the kids could hear the train coming but the cousin was able to jump to an opposite track but the girl was too scared and tried to run. >> back in the district the ntsb is trying to piece together what led to an accident which

workers dead. investigators say the workers stepped off a train near union station to fix a problem with the wheel but for some reason they crossed the tracks and that's when they were struck and killed. >> there's been breaking news overnight from the vatican. a top cardinal facing charges of sexual assault says he's innocent. cardinal george pell is pope francis' chief financial adviser and australia's most senior catholic. he was charged with offenses pleased to have taken place decades ago. he'll take a leave of absence to return to australia to fight the charges. >> ♪ >> 5:02 right now. tonight parts of president trump's travel ban go into be effect following the supreme court's ruling. >> it targets travelers from six muslim majority countries and now homeland security is out with some new rules for the t.s.a. screenings that will impact many people around the world. fox5's annie yu is live at dulles airport now with the details. annie. >> reporter: hey, good morning, maureen and holly. that's right the summer flyers can expect

process from t.s.a. agents especially when it comes to laptops and electronic devices and this morning here at dulles international we see the typical long summer lines that is to be expected but because of these new screening process rules, they're saying úthat these lines could be even worse. they're saying that this is going to be a tighter screening process for every international flight entering the country so agent its are going to be more thoughtful, they're going to be more careful with screening passengers and luggage especially personal electronic devices and they're specifically doing this for the fear of possible explosives. this announcement follows multiple new threats related to explosives hidden in electronic devices and the u.s. has already banned laptops on flights to the u.s. originating at 10 airports in the middle east and north side africa because of these fears that bombs could be concealed in these devices and u.s. security officials say that if the airports do not comply with the new tighter security, that passengers could actuall

laptops and personal devices onto the flights and they tone want to do this because clearly that could cause logistical concerns for passengers might deter travel so in hopes of preventing something like that, a ban from happening, they're going tighten up those security screenings at area airports so expect longer lines. back to you in the studio. >> all right, annie, thank you. 5:04 is our time. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is trying to send a revised version of the senate's bill to the congressional budget office by tomorrow. now, this in an attempt to push for a vote before congress' august recess. comes as some republicans are reportedly frustrated with what they call president trump's lack of understanding of the bill's principles. >> ♪ >> we have a follow-up to a story you first saw here on for. this morning there are new developments stemming from allegation of grade fixing in public schools in prince george's county. the county's ncaa p chapter is asking the county executive to stop

maxwell's contract pending the outcome of the grade fixing allegations. hundreds of prince george's county school employees were placed on administrative leave sole based on the suspicion of wrongdoing. in every case dr. maxwell removed these teachers from their buildings out of an abundance of caution and feared the employees would interfere with the investigation. we believe dr. maxwell should be held to the same standard imposed on these employees. meanwhile prince george's county school ceo dr. kevin maxwell spoke to fox5 exclusively yesterday morning after they approved the hiring of outside investigators to look into these allegations. >> i want to resolve this matter. there is no systemic corruption. there's nothing from me or anyone who is on my direct team that is telling people that they should do anything illegal. >> it's unclear when the investigation will start but dr. maxwell says he is fully cooperating. the state board of education president tells us they want it done soon. the state has to first go through aid

just a teen. between now and the date of the trial cosby has to give a deposition in the case. prosecutors in pennsylvania have not set a firm date for cosby's retrial on sexual assault charges there. >> texas prosecutors dismissed a perjury charge against the former state trooper who arrested sandra bland. the grand jury said brian encina lied. planned was arrested during a traffic stop in 2015 after he claimed she assaulted him. the 28-year-old was found hanging in a jail cell three days later. her death was ruled a suicide. planned's family settled a wrongful death lawsuit against waller county and the texas department of public safety. >> federal appeals court is refusing to release brenda dassey. toddassey was convicted in the 2005 rape and murder of photographer theresa hall back. his

those countries must have a bona fide relationship with a person or entity already in the u.s. the white house clarified what a bona fide relationship means under new guidelines sent to us embassies and consulates around the world. they say applicants must move pro-of a relationship with a parent spouse child son-in-law daughter-in-law or sibling already in the u.s. essentially anyone who is not an immediate family member will not make the cut. >> after putting in a vote on healthcare on hold for the july 4th holiday gop leaders are pressing their members to reach a deal by friday. some are worried the longer this debate lingers the worst the results will be. it's not just democrats stopping the healthcare bill from passing the senate. there are at least nine gop senators against the bill as of now. >> top vatican cardinal facing several sexual assault charges says he is innocent. cardinal pell was charged today in his native australia. the offenses he is charged wwith are believed to have tan

adviser charged in his native australia with what's called historical sexual assault offenses. meaning the alleged abuse took place many years ago. in a news conference this morning, pell denied the charges and said he looks forward to his day in court. pell has faced criticism in the past for mishandling cases of clergy abuse when he was an archbishop in melbourne and sydney. >> president trump's travel ban goes into effect tonight. the 90 day ban applies to people from six muslim majority countries to enter the united states people from those countries must have a bona fide relationship with a person or entity already in the u.s. the new guidelines indicate that essentially anyone who is not an immediate family member will not make the cut. the supreme court allowed the ban to take effect while also saying it will hear arguments about the ban in october. >> also new this morning, homeland security announcing new screening rules for flights coming into the u.s. from overseas. this includes increased screenings of passengers luggage and the

using new technology including ct scans at some airports to get passengers through security a little quicker. the enhanced screening protocol will impact flights from 280 locations. these changes are set to take effect within 120 days. >> ♪ >> 5:33 right now. let's get to some more developments stemming from allegation of grade fixing in prince george's county public schools. it's a story fox5 has been staying on top of since we first broke it more than a week ago now. >> the county's naacp chapter is now asking the county's executive not to renew the contract for schools ceo dr. kevin maxwell. the request comes after the state board of education voted to begin an investigation into the allegations. >> melanie alnwick live in upper marlboro this morning with more details. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning and that also comes after school ceo dr. kevin maxwell was reappointed for a second term by county executive rushern baker. that happened back in march and that also made dr. kevin maxwell the superintendent -- the only one to reach

term in more than 25 years. the county school board at the time applauded the reappointment of dr. maxwell saying continued growth of the school system is best served with him at the helm. now after those allegations of grade fixing and records manipulation the prince george's county naacp wants to put ahold on the second term. its members are asking county executive baker to call dr. maxwell the interim ceo until the state investigation is completed. in the letter naacp president robert ross says dr. maxwell doesn't have the confidence of the community parents or students and that the problem would be made worse by in their words continued tolerance of dr. maxwell's unbridled conduct. now, speaking to fox5 for the first time since four board members brought their complaint to the governor dr. maxwell strongly denied the allegations and said he welcomes an independent investigation. >> and i don't disagree with investigating 'cause again i want to resolve this matter. there is no systemic corruption, nothing from me or anyone who is on my direct

trains will single tracking every week night between friendship heights and medical center starting at 9 p.m. red line train service will also be suspended on both tracks for four consecutive weekends between july 15th and august 6th. shuttle buses will replace trains between were grosvenor and friendship heights. the project ends august 11. >> if you take metro this afternoon you'll likely see staff out thanking riders for their support during safe track. nearly 700 metro administrative employees office workers managers and other nonoperation staff will be out at all metro rail stations today. they're going to be handing out thank you notes and include a small token of appreciation offered by a metro partner. >> happening today, the d.c. council will hold a public hearing on the so-called fair elections act of 2017. now, if passed, the bill would ensure local politicians committed to their constituents and encourage local politicians to spend more time with voters. today's hearing begins at 9:00 this morning at the wilson building. >> 5:50. let's take a look at the stories you
