barbara: also in cumberland county, we are working to learn more about a fatal crash in the beaverdam area area authorities told our crews that the driver went off the road, overcorrected and crossed the centerline and then hit a tree. the driver was then thrown out of it on top of the victim. no children were on board when this school bus ended up in the front home of a house in garner. 8:30 this morning. we are told that the driver suffered minor injuries at the investigation continues. john: overnight, a wild chase through durham with a bizarre ending. the chase began on miami boulevard and then went down onto the durham freeway before the driver stopped in the parking lot of the durham police headquarters. along the way, the driver was

john: welcome back. a live look at fayetteville street where there is lots of sunshine and 73 degrees. don schwenneker is coming up with the seven day forecast. there is no risk of severe weather in our forecast today but spring is fast approaching. barbara: governor pat mccrory declared this severe weather preparedness week. today, students participated in a tornado drill. we are at an alleged to school with a look at the life-saving exercise.

you look behind me and you see a few kids back there transitioning to and from lunch but earlier this morning, it was a different story. the principle here announced the tornado drill around 9:30 and soon after, kids moved quickly from the classroom to their assigned spots in the hallways, away from doors and windows to make sure they were safe. within seconds, there was silence as children assumed the position known as the tornado safe position. both students and teachers remained calm until the all clear was given. the national weather service warning coordinator has been preaching all day that these drills are imperative for kids to stay safe. and not just here in school but at home as well. he talked to be considered a about how every second counts. and the importance of being home and making a plan as if you were at school. you would be amazed how many

police say it is not clear if motivated. barbara: nine firefighters were hurt after an explosion leveled three businesses. firefighters were working on a natural gas leak. debris scattered across the neighborhood and shattered away. officials say firefighters one else was hurt in the explosion. a would-be robber in pennsylvania has poor timing when he pulled a gun on this taxi driver with a sheriff deputy behind him. john: it happened in broad daylight and he was captured on the surveillance camera. >> give me all your money. give me everything you've got. now. john: the penick's driver tries to tell him he doesn't have any money as the man puts the gun to his head. after several tenths seconds, the driver noticed a deputy approaching the cap. the driver tries to get out and

he has a gun, he had it at my head. was arrested. barbara: a disturbing police beating at a baltimore high school, you may remember this video. the officer now faces child abuse charges. police initially said the officer was responding to a report of an intruder in the building but it turns out that teenager is a student. john: severe weather rocking the deep south. texas is under the gun but this was the scene last night in louisiana. roads were flooded. law-enforcement officers went door to door to evacuate 30 homes.

we will continue to follow the case. right now in raleigh, a man is jailed after police caught him red-handed inside a metal recycling plant attempting to steal money from an atm. this is surveillance video of the takedown. >> most people who come to the recycling get money but one guy tried to get it the hard way, i robbing the atm inside. -- repeatedly praised the police officers who arrived shortly after the break in for an atm robbery. he says the man on the floor used a crowbar unsuccessfully until the police arrived. it is not the first time for an attempted robbery. in 2014, he was threatened with a gun before stealing his wallet . >> for whatever reason, they didn't get caught. there is a $5,000 reward for the conviction of those parties.
