3 today in tallahassee: governor scott could sign a new abortion bill into law. it would put several new *restrictions on the procedure. 3 the state senate passed the bill wednesday, largely along party lines. this bill prohibits state money for *any service by an organization that provides abortions. it will affect half a dozen clinics, including planned parenthood facilities. the bill also requires doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital, and increases clinic inspection requirements and licensing fees. the bill mirrors legislation being challenged in court in other states. 3 lawmakers in tallahassee also gave final approval to a bill *eliminating a 19th century law. it *banned unmarried men and women from living together. and breaking the law came with a fine and even jail time. the house passed the bill wednesday... and the senate passed it's own version last week. sponsors say the old law was an invasion of privacy, and no longer made governor's desk.
a controversial *cemetery ordinance could be changing. city officials in zephyrhills are meeting today, to talk about whether the ordinance needs to be *changed. it bans people from putting *mementos at gravesites... and it's been on the books, for almost twenty years. but the city just started enforcing it, recently. they say the decorations are getting out of hand. that got family members furious... so they signed a petition to change the rules. city officials will discuss the ordinance this afternoon. 3 a heads up now for spring breakers in sarasota: several beaches will close temporarily today... because of a multi-million dollar restoration project. 3 dredging begins today... and lasts for several *months. this is part of a 21 million dollar project meant to protect the beaches from erosion. 3 the project will stretch over two miles... from the sanderling beach club south to palmer point park. crews will start at turtle beach and move north... then go back to the middle and move south. work must end before may 1st... when the sea turtle
3 a scientist from tampa is getting an "out-of-this-world" experience today. "mosi" professor antonio paris is delivering a presentation on mars... in new york city. and the person who invited him to speak at the event... is astronaut scott kelly. paris says kelly actually sent the email invitation, while he was still in space. paris will also get to *meet kelly today. the presentation is a 3-d show... featuring the terrain of mars. it's just one event at a space conference hosted by kelly. 3 ?looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend? then you may want to avoid downtown st. petersburg. one of the bay area's most *exciting events, is about to *race into town. 3 we're talking about the "firestone grand prix..." part of the indycar racing series. the big race is this weekend, through the *streets of st. pete. and the big kickoff party... is *today.
it's all taking place at the "hof-brow-house" restaurant in downtown st. pete. starting at eight tonight the public can come out and take photos with some of the drivers and even a racecar, that will be parked outside. they will also be giving away tickets to some of the races. and as for the actual *racing... the practice runs begin tomorrow. *early tomorrow morning, around 7-30 a-m. the qualifying races are saturday, and the main event is sunday. that's when the grand prix champ will be crowned. tickets start at just 20 dollars. 3 good news... for fans of the spaghetti warehouse. the restaurant in ybor city... is *staying open, for now. it was supposed to close forever last night.. but after getting such a big response from past customers... the owners decided to stay open, another 12 months. the warehouse has been in ybor city for more than 20 years. they are
