>>dave: picturesque. is this not beautiful this morning? johns hopkins all children's hospital camera looking over tampa bay and the sun is not up yet, about a half an hour or so, but it is a beautiful start to our friday. and it's interesting because like i'm sitting there looking at the computer models and looking at putting together the forecast thinking, today is going to be fabulous tomorrow is going to be even nicer. i mean, it really is.
7:14 am
65 in winter haven, also in the sebring area. we do have some areas that have slid back in the 50s. crystal river and brooksville. now, the overnight lows from tampa to the coast will probably stay in the 60s this weekend. even after the front comes through. other areas, you will get back into the 50s. i do have 60s right across i-10. warmest spot usually is down over south florida where they're in the mid 70s. high pre out. you can see the thin clouds associated with the cold front. there's two sprinkles near montgomery, alabama this morning. they're just going to fall apart. rain is not an issue with this front at all. but behind it, the winds will shift and you can almost see the way the arrows are moving out of the northwest and that will tend to drag in some slightly drier air. this is not the kind of cold
7:15 am
down 20 degrees. just subtle differences. it will feel, you know, just a little bit drier. it will be just a couple of degrees cooler but that's it. i just think it makes just for an even nicer weekend and high pressure builds in behind that and sticks around for several days so the overall seven-day forecast, our temperatures are going to remain just a few degrees on either side of normal which is awesome. so 83 and scattered clouds today and there's your then a few clouds tonight, the front is harmlessly going to come swinging through. low 65 degrees. sunset at 6:43 and then mostly sunny. tomorrow will be a little drier than today with a high temperature of around 80 degrees. it does look like, you know, this typically happens when a front comes through, the winds and seas start to get kicked up offshores.
7:16 am
moderate chop. high tide at 4:00 this morning so tide is on the way out. it should be low just before noon time. now, the next seven days, obviously the rain is not going to be an issue. we're turning the clocks back so you get to sleep in on sunday. i want no crankiness from my co-workers come monday. then high temperature staying in the lower 80s. i didn't point anybody out. vanessa, you just happened to be next on the rundown. >>jennifer: >>vanessa: the rundown? all right. i'll try to be in a good mood. thanks. we'll get a check on the roads here at 7:16. right now we're following the new crash reported out of macdill and gandy. that area. we don't know about lane blocks but we're getting reports this might involve a vehicle and a bicyclist or a vehicle and a pedestrian. it sounds like police are still in route to this so we won't get any final word until they get there and we're concerned
7:17 am
you pass through this area. we'll get to the -- i would say the pasco county area as you get into tarpon springs, u.s. 19. we do have a crash reported at flora. we have some minor southbound delays building, minor slowdowns equate to go a minute or two due to lane blocks in the area. plan extra time. good news is as we check in on the major roadways and the interstates, we're not seeing a whole lot of congestion. this is definitely lighter as far as times at 17 minutes from bearss avenue to i-4. 75 north, we're still in the clear. 10 minutes from the selmon to flecher and only 16 minutes from 75 to 275 taking i-4. >>laura: all right. thank you. fuel economy is at an all-time high thanks to new technology and lighter vehicles. u.s. environmental protection

2015 model vehicles increased to 24.8 miles per gallon. that's an increase of .5 miles per gallon over the 2014 model year. the epa says wider use of lighter materials like aluminum is lowering the weight of vehicles, improved engines and transmissions are making cars and trucks more efficient. >>russell: stevie, i'm so glad you're right there for this story. new this morning, big changes to the big mac. mcdonalds is adding two new vergs of the popular burger mac junior is a miniature version and the grand mac, 66% bigger. this is the latest in a string of changes mcdonald $ making to lure more customers in the golden arches. >>vanessa: they need a mac daddy. >>russell: that was very nice, vanessa. >>laura: big payday. huge.
7:19 am
world series. they get a bonus check. >>russell: hard to notice the little things that can be a hazard when buying holiday toys. first we check in with charley belcher. good morning. >>charley: good morning to you, russell rhodes. you know, every friday i wear my red, white and blu jersey because it's fox colors to have a fox 13 "good day" pep rally. but zephyrhills high school is involved in the nine mile war tonight with pasco high school and pasco happens to be red. so i i've got wear orange today. i will tell you, however, i'm not taking off my shoes. i'm not taking off the shoes. but i wear orange. go, bulldogs. victoria, fire up that marching band! stick around, everybody. we have the band. we have the cheerleaders, we have the varsity bulldogs in the building. we have a pep rally going and students haven't even gotten here yet.

(russell- welcome back to >>russell: welcome back. holidays can be fun but also dangerous. >>laura: a lot of kids get hurt while playing with the toys. we have advice about shopping and safety. >>reporter: there are strict safety standards for all toys sold in the u.s. >> we actually work year around to ensure that that the industry knows what the standards are so that they can comply. and that consumers have some information on how they can choose safe and age appropriate toys. >>reporter: jo lawrence manages the toy safety administration programs and recommends shopping at trusted retailers. >> toys you're going to see on store shelves or online retailers are safe. by law in this country, if it's sold here in the u.s., it has to comply with our top u.s. safety standards.
7:24 am
follow toy age recommendations. >> only about 27% of parents were paying attention to the age grade on the package. but it's really important. it's safety guidance. it's about the developmental abilities of a child at a given age. >>reporter: parents should adhere to packaged warnings and instructions. >> when presents arrive, it's tempting to just jump in and start playing but it's really important to go through the instructions with your child, demonstrate how to play safely and appropriately. >>reporter: especially take note of small toy parts or other hazards in the play space. >> the toys will have a warning that tells you when there are small parts in the package. that's an alert to parents to know that if you have children of different ages in the home, older children and some younger children, it's important to keep the small parts away from those

if an item fits entirely in that without sticking out, it's considered a small part. this one doesn't fit so it's okay for children under three to play with. >>reporter: the toy chest itself is great for organizing toys, but it needs to have a lid that won't hurt little fingers and made of soft material. lauren says that shelves need to be anchored to the wall so they don't tip over. >> if you're using shelving units or dressers or other furnur environment, those need to be secured to the wall. you don't want the furniture to tip, especially when the child sees a toy or other item attracted to them on a high shelf, they may be tempted to climb the furniture. >>dave: 7:25. onto temperatures because i've got some mid to upper 50s in citrus and hernando county.

(russell- welcome back. the time is 7:--. we start this >>russell: we have a chilling case out of south carolina. police found a woman tied in a metal container. >>laura: she and her boyfriend were missing for a couple of months. >> we're trying to make sure that we don't have a serial killer on her hands. >>reporter: a missing woman found chained up in a metal box in south carolina is alive and

hospital. 30-year-old kayla brown disappeared in anderson county along with her boyfriend in august. >> we have deputies down there that came to do the search warrant this morning and heard a lady banging on the container. for all the officers to open up the container up and see her chained like a dog, that is incredible. >>reporter: she said she was being fed during her time in the locked container sitting outside. >> she's alive and well and she's she told us that she'd been locked in that container for two months. by god's grace she's alive. >>reporter: suspect is in custody. he's a registered sex offender and expected to be charged with kidnapping. kayla's boyfriend is still missing but authorities fear he could be dead. >> there might even be four people on this piece of property deceased.
7:32 am
>>reporter: investigators are looking spew the possible connection between the couple and the curse sp-- suspect. >> i think they're friends and i think they had a relationship. but what that is, i don't know at this point but i don't think this is a random act. >>reporter: case remains under investigation. more charges, including murder, could be filed. >>laura: and the national sex offender registry lists a kidn arizona in 1987. spartanburg county jail records do not list a charge. >>russell: 7:32 right now. it's always interesting to find out where we stack up when it comes to how much money we earn. according to the u.s. census bureau, average household income was $73,000 in 2014 which is the last year data was available but just throwing that number out there doesn't mean a whole lot. there are a lot of factors to be taken into account. when you look at the average
7:33 am
where you live, $73,000 could be a lot or a little. another factor is the size of the family. $73,000 stretches differently depending on whether it's feeding a family of two or a family of four or five. something else interesting the data shows is how the age of the head of the household affects the money brought in. 35 to winner, the average $71,000. 55 to 64, median income goes down to $60,000. and this is really disheartening when the head of the household is 65 years or older, the median household income just $37,000. >>laura: some people can't even afford to buy a sandwich. they go hungry. thousands of men, women and
7:34 am
wa-wa is doing something to help and alcides segui is at the newest location in brandon to explain. good morning. >>reporter: good morning to you. yeah, they're opening the 100th wa-wa here in the state of florida. to celebrate that, folks got here very early this morning. you can't see it now but this entire area this morning, they had easily about 20, 30 employees or they made 1,000 hoagies and it's all hillsborough county students, feeding tampa bay. lori is joining us. it's interesting and really great dynamic between feeding tampa bay and wa-wa. 1,000 hoagies and you're donating $100,000 to food banks here in florida. >> we've been committed to fighting hunger and we've been partnering with the feeding america food banks in our

appropriate on our 100th store that we come back and renew that commitment and announce a statewide grant for $100,000 to fight hunger in our markets by the wa-wa association. our associates were thrilled to put their time and talent to work and build hoagies for their local schools in the area as well. >>reporter: they got here at 4:00 this morning and we have video of it, too. they were working very fast and all the hoagies are loaded up right now in the truck and they're getting ready to go to bay area students here in the hillsbou announcement on expansion in the state of florida. more stores here in the state of florida but you can't give us a whole lot of details on t. i wish you could. what can you tell me now for folks tuning in? >> we're very, very excited to say that we have reached the goal of 100 ahead of schedule so just a little over four years, there's more to come. we're going to continue expanding and opening stores at the rate of 35 to 40 a year for
7:36 am
on today, we'll talk about the plan in terms of reaching new areas within the state and timing around that. we couldn't be more grateful to the support of the community, the local officials, our community partners, our associates and our awesome customers, of course. thank you, thank you so much. >>reporter: a lot of excitement with the employees and lori and about everyone coming here. just to kind of give you a heads up when you talk about 100 stores here in florida, 4,000 jobs. as they continu means more jobs here in the sunshine state. with that said, probably the most important thing of all, is there free coffee today? the answer is yes. not only at this wa-wa but across the state of florida, they'll give out about 70 million cups of coffee in the sunshine state alone by the end of today. back to you. >>laura: alcides segui live for us in brandon. thank you. let's get over to jen.

hungry. there's a little girl in our area doing the same thing. for kids, the best part about birthdays are usually getting gifts, having a party, watching all the presents pile up but that's not the case for one fourth grade girl. she turned her day of receiving into an opportunity to give back. ? happy birthday to you? >>jennifer: brook just had a birthday party she'll never forget. her whole fourth grade class turned up to ride go carts and eat what made this party special is what was missing. >> instead of presents for my birthday, i asked for my friends to bring canned foods to be donated to metropolitan ministries. >>jennifer: it's a pretty mature idea for a 10-year-old girl who couldn't believe how many people in the community go hungry every day. >> sad. we can have food they can't so i asked my friends to bring food instead of presents. >>jennifer: she turned her day
7:38 am
>> i thought one thing from every kid but kids were bringing boxes and whole tubs full of food. everybody was excited to help. >>jennifer: brook couldn't wait for delivery day, arriving at metropolitan ministries with a truck full of food. >>jennifer: even more impressed that after the delivery, brook stayed to help stock the shelves. >> thank you so much, brook. we couldn't do it without you, without your friends and fourth grade class and with >>jennifer: brook hopes her kindness inspires others to do the same. >> i want to challenge everyone, kids to do what i do. instead of presents, ask for something to help someone else. >> >>jennifer: she and her friend are donating halloween candy to johns hopkins all children's hospital. >>walter: so we have to get into
7:39 am
okay. >>walter: the bucs lost. the bucs lost. it was a blowout. you would think on paper, we've had their number for the last three games but they're too good this year. >>dave: matt ryan has been on a roll. >>walter: first drive, buccaneers didn't look too bad. they ended with a three yard touchdown pass. great snag there from mike evans. that was one of two touchdown passes that he would get on the second touchdown in the quarter was a 24-yarder, really just a junk ball but the fact that mike evans is 6' 5" he made it look easy. >>dave: matt ryan threw for 344 yards and touchdown passes to four different receivers. the falcons, listen to this,
7:40 am
got two late fourth quarter touchdowns with the final score 43-28. so that was bad in itself. but then a couple of our key players got injured and we'll start with jameis winston trying to get hurt after the bucs cut the score 40-20. he sat out the rest of the game. he says he feels fine. >>walter: really? after that? >>dave: but that was a hit. even quarterbacks have got to be careful. >>walter: let's look at the mike evans, that could be a bigger concern here. he's in the concussion protocol after this hit in the fourth quarter. first we'll talk about the hit and then the catch. he got lit up. he's in the concussion protocol but this catch is ridiculous. nfl.com and calling this the catch of the year for several reasons. one, he caught it with one hand.
7:41 am
and he held onto the ball after getting lit up like that. >>dave: he planted it into his chest. he wasn't going to drop that. >>walter: we'll just have to see. we're going to learn in the coming days just how bad -- >>dave: is this his first concussion? >>walter: i believe so. >>dave: he has a full 10 days to recover now. remember, they don't play until a week from sunday. that is going to help to get him out of that concussion that that much. >>walter: i don't know. >>dave: loss hurts. they fall three wins, five losses this season. falcons lead the division at 6-3. saints are 3-4. panthers, 2-5. >>walter: so you wonder, why was it so ugly? we didn't have doug martin. the running game isn't there. we put in rookie bay ton barber. didn't look too bad. he had five carries for 25 yards
7:42 am
rookie, after all. >>dave: and you have to start throwing. you have no choice. you have to start throwing the ball. it was tough. >>walter: they have to regroup and reload. one more thing. lightning, they had to battle back against the bruins last night. 3-2 in the final period. tyler johnson tied the game with a deflection into the net. his second goal of the night. bolts lost in a 10-round four losses in the last five games for the lightning, although they picked up a point in the standings. they play the devils at home tomorrow night, laura. >>laura: shootout. that's dangerous. >>walter: they must have been tired at the end of that one. >>laura: in chicago, a victory parade today. it will end up at grant park for a noon time rally. security guards will screen everyone attending the rally.
7:43 am
any drinking, either. they expect a few hundred thousand people. the city has been waiting 108 years. did we mention that? for the cubs to win a world series. and they did it by beating the indians wednesday night in cleveland, 8-7 in extra innings. 36% of all television sets that were on during that time were watching the game. that's about 40 million viewers. that's the largest rating for a world series game, for game seven between the braves and the they set that record 25 years ago. >>russell: players get bonus money from a playoff pool. what you see here, just the estimate. each player on the cubs may pocket $512,000 for winning the world series. nba champion cavaliers got about $400,000 each. players on the stanley cup champion penguins got about
7:44 am
$97,000. >>laura: those penguins had to work hard for that $163,000. >>russell: i would have thought that football was more. not that any of it is low but do you know what i'm saying? >>laura: not as big of a franchise as it used to be. >>russell: i guess not. >>laura: five female musicians that make more than $50 million a year. >>russell: of course, taylor swift is on that list. she makes more money in a day than most people make in four or that she makes. >>laura: and another live look outside right now. look at that sunrise coming up. dave is back after the break with a look at the forecast. with a look at the forecast. time right now is 7:44 and amendment 1 is endorsed by florida's firefighters... because it does solar the right way. amendment 1 protects consumers from scams,
