es. president obama holds his there decisional year end news conference this afternoon before he visits families of the victims of the san bernardino shootings. three major theme parks are adding security measures ahead of the busy holiday season. opening nationwide today, it's the first star wars film in ten years. we have reaction from the fans who got to see it last night. es. good morning. i'm peggy fox. welcome to wake up washington. >> you made it to friday. we start with a check on weather and traffic. larry miller is here for the commute. first alert meteorologist allyson rae starts it off. good morning. happy friday. the weekend is looking good but very typical of december weather compared to the past weather we've been enjoying, the mild temperatures. not so much today and tomorrow. we're looking at a chilly start but it could be worse. 47 degrees. temperatures will stay very consistent all day long into the 40s feeling into the 30s
with the strong wind out of the northwest. a couple of leftover stray showers near port royal up through la plata, waldorf possible. everybody else increasing sunshine and we'll stay into the 40s. we'll detail your weekend forecast coming up. we made it to friday. talk about a rough week. gliew were only here-- >> you were only here-- >> i know, i was only here for two days. everything is running on schedule. buses also running on schedule as well. around the beltway, no issues. again free and clear on both the inner and outer loop. sky 9 giving us a look at how things are shaping up on the beltway at colesville road. traffic flowing freely in both directions. you won't have any issues this morning if you're getting ready to head out the door. we'll have a look at your fast five drive cast in about eight minutes or so. following breaking news in northwest where police are investigating a stabbing. it happened a little before 5:00 a.m. on 13 and g streets. >> one man was stabbed in the
stomach and the arm. police say he was conshus when making -- conscious when taken to the hospital. a head-on collision has left one person dead. it happened late last night at route 202 and old largo roads. a second person is hurt. maryland state police are trying to find the cause of the crash. the names of the victims have not yet been released. we're looking ahead to president obama's year end news conference where national security is most likely going to take center stage. >> delia goncalves is live at the white house with a preview. >> reporter: president obama says we are facing a new type of terror threat which is harder to prevent. >> we are in a new phase of terrorism including lone actors and small groups of terrorists like those in san bernardino. >> reporter: the president says because these groups tend to be smaller and self-initiating, they are harder to detect and therefore harder to prevent.
but he says our greatest tools to fight terrorism, our strength and resilience as americans. after today's news conference, he will travel to the scene in san bernardino and spend time with the victims' families but not everyone is looking forward to that visit. i'll tell you why coming up in the next half-hour. we're live outside the white house, delia goncalves, wusa9. 6:03 now. it appears lawyers have some more work to do before setting a date for a possible retrial for baltimore police officer william porter. >> a hung jury caused the judge to declare a mistrial. yesterday the prosecution and defense met with the judge behind closed doors. a new trial date was not set during that meeting. university of maryland law professor doug colbert comments. >> officer porter and his lawyer must consider the strength of the evidence against him that was presented at the first trial and it may
well be it's in officer porter's interest to explore a negotiation and a possible plea or grant of immunity. >> a court spokeswoman says there will be at least one more meeting between the judge and lawyers in the coming is today. a springfield woman at the center of a very tense bare caitd situation in downtown washington is due in court this morning. sophia daulk is charged with assault on a police officer while armed. it took place at 19 and k streets northwest and lasted all night long shutting down traffic in the area, too. it ended with her surrendering to police. today's court hearing set for 9:30 this morning. students in augusta county, virginia are getting a head start on their winter break. administrators canceled classes for there today after uproar over a teacher's assignment. she asked students to draw a muslim statement of faith in arabic. since then the district has been flooded with calls and e- mails. some of them are angry but none reported to be threats.

es. the rain is out of here except for a few last little sprinkles through southern maryland and the northern neck and also through southern delmar advancement the rest of us are going to see cloudy skies to start. a little more sunshine by the afternoon. let's take a look at your current temperatures. lovettsville 42 degrees. columbia 45. bowie you're at 46. as you head out for lunch today, bundle up. that temperature is deceiving. it's 50 degrees but it will feel into the 30s today. we'll get to the weekend forecast coming up. larry? we call it the fast five getting a look at some of the five top roadways and interstates around the the
metro right now. fair conditions on 95 on the maryland-virginia side. i-270 the bw parkway, i-66 as well as 50. we only say conditions are fair because volume is starting to build up but again no reported accidents on any of these interstates. so certainly so far so good. let's give you a live look right now and show you how things are shaping up outside. this is a live look at i-66 here at scotch street. again, no issues as you travel eastbound making your way into rosslyn. we'll have your drive times around the metro coming up after the seven-day forecast. the man arrested in connection with the san bernardino shootings is going to learn if he makes bail. >> the senate gets ready to discuss the ash carter e-mail controversy. >> today may be

weekend. it is cold but, hey, guys, back to reality. it's december. >> good point. >> winter is just around the corner and temperatures are not could cold from what they typically are this time ever year. let's take a look how we're starting off. we're clear for areas well off to the north and west. we're going to see cloudy skies stick around for at least a little bit. then during the afternoon we'll see more sunshine but blustery today. wasn't to dress for the 30s even though much of the day we'll stay into the 40s. it's not going to feel that warm. by saturday these strong northwesterly winds are just bringing in more cold air. by saturday it's just even colder but that's our coldest day. then we're going to see temperatures increase nicely. we'll be into the lower 40s on saturday for highs. that's it. sunday winds relax, more pleasant. sunshine across the board. next week we're looking at 50s and then 60s. yeah. leftover rain in southern maryland. everyone else will see increasing sunshine today. these winds are going to make

there. southbound 270 we're still issue and problem free. from shady grove road to the capital beltway, now an 8- minute commute this morning. the volume is starting to pick up on the eastbound side of i- 66. thankfully still no issues or problems associated with that additional volume. from chain bridge road to north glebe road, you're looking at now a 13-minute commute. northbound on 95 on the virginia side from gordon boulevard making your way toward the capital beltway, that will take you into springfield. you're looking at a 10-minute commute. if you're going to be traveling on the the inner loop of the beltway from central avenue to indian head highway, air looking at now an 11-minute commute. sky 9 giving us a live look at spur. traveling southbound on i-270 looks like you will approach a little bit after slowdown as you approach the capital beltway but once you ge past that, you'll be -- you get past that you'll be good to go with no major issues there this morning. getting a look from our trafficland cam, this is a look at the suitland parkway traveling from suitland making your way into town. you're looking at an issue free commute. we'll send it over to you.
>> thank you, larry. just about 6:1. here's what's making news now. a bail hearing is scheduled for monday for the man who bought the assault rifles used in this month's massacre in intrngdz, cal -- san bernardino, california. enrique marquez is charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists for allegedly conspiring with syed farook to plot other attacks. the attacks, though, never happened. a senate panel is set to conduct a review of defense secretary ash carter's e-mails to ensure no sensitive information was compromised. this decision comes after it with us revealed that carter used a personal e-mail account during his first month on the job. he admitted to doing so and says it was a mistake. boweberg dual -- bowe bergdahl will face charges of desertion and misbehavior. he disappeared in afghanistan and was held by the taliban for five years. his story is featured in the second season of the pope
regard podcast -- popular podcast serial. the just department is looking for victims of alleged police misconduct in chicago. it's part of a civil rights investigation against the city's police department. the department announced the investigation last week following the release of video showing a chicago police officer shooting and killing 17- year-old laquon mcdonald. a pharmaceutical company executive is free on $5 million bond this morning. martin shkreli has pleaded not guilty to securities fraud charges in new york. the charges do not include his actions at a company of farm suit cals where he's -- pharmaceuticals where he's accused of price gouging a major aids drug. seaworld and universal orlando say visitors now have to pass through metal detectors to enter the parks. visitors at disney theme parks will be randomly selected for screenings. the move is getting mixed reaction from theme park guests. >> it's sad. it's sad that things have to

degrees but we reached 52 earlier today just after midnight. 44 for chevy chase. 46 for college park. and temperatures are going to stay very consistent throughout the afternoon. winds are going to be noticeable making if feel -- it feel colder than it actually is. the northwesterly winds are bringing colder air for tomorrow. i'll explain coming up. metro riders, everything is running on schedule, trains and buses so good news there. around the beltway, we're still problem free. had an earlier issue on the northbound side of 95 on the virginia side at the prince william parkway. the incident is blocking the shoulder. not much in the way of gray delays. if -- of delays. if anything it's the volume. volume starting to pick up as you approach the 11th street bridge. also affecting folks traveling southbound on the bw parkway. sky 9 is giving us a look at

riding his bike on massachusetts avenue near glen echo. a young man who hit him faced a $1500 fine. the family is on a mission to highlight bicycle safety and the need for cars to share the road. two volunteer firefighters are charged with assault this morning after allegedly attacking two female career firefighters. prince george's county fire department sources say the fight started after landover hills and west lanham hill companies responded to the fire on 75th street. they got there at the same time. the conflict continued to escalate and the two volunteer firefighters allegedly blocked the doorway and threw a punch. chief mark bashoor says he is shocked. >> couldn't believe t. we're all here for the the same -- believe it. we're all here for the same thing. when we arrive. people expect us to be on our game all of the time. >> all four firefighters involved in this case are now on leave. take a good look at this picture. if you recognize this teenager, you should call prince george's

from germantown road to the capital beltway a 14-minute commute. no issues eastbound from sully road to fairfax drive, an 18- minute commute for you this morning. northbound on 95 on the virginia side, again at the prince william parkway we still have the shoulder blocked as a result of an earlier accident but it's not causing much in the way of delays. be mindful if you're going to be heading in that direction. starting further north around lorton road to the capital beltway, you're looking at a 6- minute commute. traveling on the inner loop of the beltway from landover road to national harbor boulevard, you're looking at a 14-minute commute. sky 9 is making its way to an accident on the bw parkway on the southbound side so we'll give you a look at that shortly. in the meantime let's take some of our other cameras and show you how things are shaping up along the beltway. doing really well on the inner and outer loop. the outer loop starting to have increasing volume. this is just north of the american legion bridge. but other than the volume, nothing is really going to slow you down. from a look at our trafficland cam for our friends in wheat
