officials to keep tabs on as we go into a potential yellow alert tomorrow morning. >> reporter: still snowing heavily today, as school let out this afternoon in damascus, with mixed opinions on the students on the wisdom of going to school on a snowy day. >> i think that it was a waste of my time. >> we shouldn't have gone to school. i had to walk. >> the roads were a little slippery. but not really too bad. >> reporter: about 3 inches of wet snow piled up in this outer suburb today. but roadways remained in good shape for school buses bringing students home. kids finding this wet variety of snow makes for the best snowballs. residents scraped away slush from parking lots and walkways, before a predicted freezeup. only the most rural lanes and driveways remained covered with snow today. >> roads are just like it rained is all. comes down and it melts. >> i'll be glad when everything is over and i can go back to fishing. >> reporter: but what doesn't

known. >> because i have a 7-year-old. and i also have an 11-year-old. and like i asked my son, did any sexual activities happen to him? >> reporter: that's a conversation lakeisha murphy never imagined she would have to have with her young son. >> he said no. but my son said that everybody knew about it. all the kids knew about him. so it's sad that an adult had to find out from a picture. >> reporter: that nude photo was discovered by a child's uncle, in the kid's text messengerrer app on the boy's phone. shortly after, deontae cara way was arrested for child porn and child sex abuse. he was here at the school. some of the videos were made in school bathrooms. they say cara way played santa claus at the school last christmas. >> i just feel he got what he deserved. >> detectives say there are at least 10 victims, who range in age from 9 to 13.

school officials say caraway went through a background check and it came back clean. these two tell me caraway dressed unprofessionally at school. and many parents were concerned. >> like with pajama pants. and things like that. just felt too free. like i don't know. it was just too much for me to see. and for the kids. >> reporter: now, after his arrest for child sex crimes, murphy said school administrators could have prevented this. >> i hold responsible the principal. because the principal and administration. because they should have followed up on that. shouldn't have even came to this point. >> quick correction. i meant 2014, instead of 2004. concerned parents met with school administrators today to talk about all of this and crisis counselors are at the schools to help students who need it. reporting live tonight in prince george's county, stephanie gailhard, wusa 9.

things out. a spokesman for poulty said they have talked to the customer and they have rearranged and delayed the closing dates. they're trying to work things out. reporting live from fairfax, peggy fox, wusa 9. >> all right, peg. thank you for that. we're tracking metro now. and there is new evidence that more people are saying goodbye. according to documents posted on metro's website, rail ridership is now at the same level as it was back in 2004. weekday rider ship is down more than 6% through december. compared to the previous year. and rider ship on buses and trains is also down more than 5%, compared to the previous year. metro's documents say the drop was pervasive and it was not linked to any particular event or to weather. metro notes that frequent and unpredictable delays are the likely contributing factors to that decline in rail requiredship the. more video here of today's snow from loudoun county.

temperatures above freezing were going to save us. oftentimes, upstairs can support snow. but then you have to decide, well, is it cold enough at the surface to actually accumulate the snow. damascus, they are the winners. saw the beautiful video there. two inches. only half an inch in charlestown, west virginia. that's it. three-degree guarantee. i think we'll be okay today. we went for a high of 41. i know that seems kind of high. but it got kind of close to 40 today. we'll let you know how you did at 11:00. live outside, we're 38 now. dew points in the upper 20s. so slightly dryer air has moved in. winds now north/northwest at 10. such to indicate that we're going to see a little colder air tonight. we're not looking at a flash freeze tonight. but there will be slick spots. and i'm even more concerned about the next batch of showers possible overnight. right now, nothing quiet.

across overnight. and that's why we're thinking about extending the yellow weather alert. even by 6:00 a.m., you folks in la plata, andrews, calvert county, st. mary's county, could have a little coating. and that's not what you need as you try to get to work monday morning with temperatures around 30. by 9:00, it's gone. temperatures in the upper 20s and low 30. and by 1:00, fair amount of sunshine with temperatures generally in the upper 30s to near 40. it's going to snow until further notice, west of the divide. oakland, you might make 20 for a high tomorrow. day planner looks like this. 32 to start. 33 at 9:00. 36 at 11:00. and 39 at 1:00 p.m. but it will be breezy. dress for the 20s. arctic air. real arctic air arrives. only 30 for a high on friday. next seven days, snow showers possible on saturday. kind of a reinforcement of the arctic air. only 23 for high. 24 for valentine's day. next storm, monday night into tuesday. could be snow, could be snow and rain. could stay to our south.

models are not in agreement. >> topper, thank you. big news we're following internationally tonight. at least 10 people have been killed. 17, critically injured after a head-on train collision in germany. >> the german transport minister says the trains were traveling about 60 miles an hour before the crash, southeast of munich. now, authorities say it is unclear why those trains ran directly into each other on the same tracks. the two engineers of the trains appear to be among the dead. investigators will be studying two of the three data recorders that have been recovered so far. investigators, trying to determine whether a man in india was killed by a meteorite, a four-foot-deep crater was found in the ground, near the body of a bus driver. if confirmed, this would be the first recorded death from a piece of falling spacerock, in nearly 200 years. this happened saturday. experts say meteorite deaths are extremely rare because the rocks usually burn up in the

florida senator bill nelson, calling for the ntswb to investigate the cruise ship. frightened passengers reported 30-foot waves crashing into the boat. deck chairs got tossed about. senator nelson questioning why the ship would go into a storm that had been forecast for four days. in tonight's consumer alert, the center for auto safety is suing the department of transportation for failing to create a surgable database that you can use to search for safety defects. now, the consumer group is accusing the department of transportation of violating a law that directs the agency

earlier. but still, there will be thick spots. bus stop temps, 26 to 34. then some slick spots in the morning. and that arctic air arrives thursday, sets up camp. it's going to be cold here, thursday through monday morning. probably below freezing, thursday through monday morning. 10:00 tonight, no real problems. temperatures, though, flirting flirting with 30. so we're looking at slick spots. maybe 32 from frederick. temps quite high. 30 in gaithersburg. 31 in silver spring. and about 32 in dumfries. notice the snow showers that roll through overnight. they roll through from fairfax and montgomery, they cross 95 around 4:00. and end up in southern maryland about 5:30. this will cause problems if this were to come topaz. we'll keep a close eye on that. temperatures above freezing. you look at the shades of blue, it's a healthy little snow shower. then it gets out of here pretty quickly. by 9:00, we're done. temperatures low 30s.

by 1:00, temperatures near 40 in the downtown area. and upper 30s in the suburbs. on the day planner, even downtown, we're starting at freezing, and up to 36 at 11 -- 11:00. up to 39, almost 40 by 1:00 p.m. so thursday, here comes the arctic air. perhaps the flurry, 29. only 30 on friday. partly cloudy. next seven days, gets colder. 20s for highs on saturday and sunday. valentine's day. snow showers possible on saturday. that could lay down a quick coating as well. next storm or possible storm monday into tuesday. and models all over the place. could start out as snow by monday night. now, wusa game on sports with kristen berset. brought to you by xfinity. the second-ranked maryland terrapins host bowie state. no doubt, we know how this game will go between david and goliath. they said the emphasis for this team would be defense.
