after a terrifying accident. his tractor trailer careened off the side of the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel yesterday afternoon, and it is still in the water this morning. police still have not released the driver's name. that could happen sometime today. officers say traffic citations are pending in the accident. let's take a closer look at the accident from a view only chopper 10 can show you. the driver plunged into the water around mile post 14 on the southbound side of the bridge. police say he was trying to pass another, slower-moving tractor- trailer, and lost control. officials say the man was alert and conscious during the accident. he was in 49-degree water for about an hour before emergency crews pulled him to safety. chopper 10 was there as emergency crews put the driver on a stretcher. then nightingale flew him to the hospital. police say he has serious injuries to his head, arm, and chest, but he is expected to recover.

both later died at the hospital. the standoff started yesterday afternoon when the two-year-old's mother says her live-in boyfriend threatened to kill everyone inside their home. the mother's teenage son escaped and called 9-1-1. when officers got there, the man, mother, and two-year-old were holed up inside a bedroom. :31 - :50 cpl. michele pihera / gwinnett county police department "at 4:40 is when our officers home and when the shots were fired, that's when they found that the infant... the two year old was suffering from a single gunshot wound. as they were making entry, that's when the suspect shot himself." police say they are still investigating exactly what led up to the shooting. that standoff is less than 20 miles away from another we first told you about as breaking news on tuesday. in this incident, a man held a woman and 11 children hostage in a motel for about five hours. when swat entered the room, the man stabbed

at last check, he was in the hospital in critical condition. today michigan's governor will meet with the flint city mayor to discuss a serious water issue. earlier this week, the governor issued a state of emergency for flint because of its toxic water. the water was contaminated with dangerous levels of lead, and it's poisoning children in the community. the issue started back in 20-14 when the city switched from detroit's water supply to the flint river. it was all to save money. it has since switched back to detroit's water supply. however an independent study shows lead levels in children have doubled. new this morning, alabama's chief supreme court justice is telling judges to uphold the state's ban on same-sex marriage. justice roy moore sent a message reminding them the directive to refuse licenses to same-sex couples is still in place. roy moore/alabama chief justice "a court that enters an order, it must be obeyed

the american civil liberties union of alabama said justice moore's order was silly. it also said the order would not change the fact that most alabama judges are issuing same-sex marriage licenses. hundreds of local macy's workers are waiting to learn if they'll be out of a job. 10 on your side learned, three stores in hampton roads are closing. they are the military circle store in norfolk, the chesapeake square store in chesapeake, and the peninsula town center store in hampton. this will affect about 275 local workers. in all, 40 stores nationwide will close. store executives say about half of the workers will move into other positions. the store says it had disappointing sales in 2015. the nebraska humane society, police, and horse owners are all on alert this morning. they say someone is cutting off horse tails. bruce and vickie tompkins say a thief took the hair from two of their horses.

you could call it the roadkill food bank. an organization in montana is taking what people hit on the roads and feeding the hungry. the montana food bank has been accepting "vehicle tenderized meat" from police and game wardens since the 19-80s. with that roadkill, it provides 15-hundred meals every year. food bank employees say some may think this is gross, but the meat is

it happened just before 9:00 pm, and the robber had was armed. he demanded money from one of the clerks, then ran off before police could 7-eleven on colonial avenue and princess anne road. that's in ghent, just a couple miles away from the first robbery. police say the suspect was also armed and got away with money before police arrived. police tell us the third armed robbery that happened on chesapeake boulevard just before 10:00 last night, was unsuccessful. a 10 on your side viewer sent us this picture from the scene. police say the suspect barged into the store, but left before getting money. police have not confirmed if the three crimes are connected. no one was hurt in any of them. right now police are not connecting one suspect to all of last night's robberies. officers gave us two descriptions, and both included similar aspects. a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, khaki pants, and a black backpack. call the crime line if you know anything about these robberies. last night's attempted

luana: this morning, south korea and the u-s agreed on a close military operation in response to north korea's claims it tested a hydrogen bomb. south korea also announced it is starting anti-north propaganda. this morning the country's defense minster said north korea's claims pose a serious threat to peace and stability. officials in washington are still skeptical north korea tested an h- bomb. the white house said yesterday the initial analysis is not consisten with an h- bomb. experts say it could take weeks to confirm north korea's claims. happening today, a scheduled court appearance for the former isle of wight county school board chairman, accused of stealing more than 200-thousand-dollars from an elderly woman. kent hildebrand faces grand larceny, credit card fraud, and identity theft charges. a woman says her 80-year-old mother

help her with her finances. he set up on-line banking for her and gave him access to her accounts. investigators say he siphoned thousands of dollars, a month, for at least seven years. a suffolk man who claims to be a pastor, faces sex crimes against a minor. police arrested 54-year-old anthony mcclain in december after a grand jury indictment. they charged mcclain with aggravated sexual battery, indecent liberties with a child, and incest. his website says he runs a church out of his home. we reached out to mcclain's wife who relocated to north carolina. she things the victim's accusations are a lie. c2 16:22:18 - she made these accusations that she was having sexual encounters with him c2 16:30:22 - i believe my husband is innocent and i'm standing by him 100%. mcclain was due in court yesterday. the judge moved the case until late february. police in hampton are

happened to two people found dead in a home. they say they got a call for a welfare check at a lives nearby told us, he's related by marriage to the man in the home. animal control officers removed several cats from the house. new this morning, we're about to show you incredible video of survival. a boy and his parents jumped from the fourth floor of this burning apartment building in quebec yesterday. and it was all caught on video. you can see the flames pouring out of this upper window. a neighbor recorded as the boy dangled from his father's arms before the man dropped his son to the ground. firefighters caught the boy. then the father and mother jumped, and landed in the snow. all three went to the hospital and should be okay. it took crews about 2 hours to bring the fire under control. investigators are still looking into how it started. tunnel tolls will be the
