parents in newport news. the brittingham-midtown community center is open today for hilton elementary students who are out of school today. crews are still cleaning lead paint in the school. the newport news parks and rec youth program is providing daycare from 8 in the morning until 5:30 this evening. now to developing news out of the middle east. the iran revolutionary guard corps is questioning 10 american sailors -- that's according to iranian state owned t-v. overnight, iran held the sailors at a base on farsi island. iran seized the sailors and two boats after they drifted into iranian waters in the persian gulf yesterday afternoon. iranian authorities accused the sailors of trespassing and snooping. rico bush has been keeping an eye on the developments very closely. rico, u-s authorities may be close to resolving the crisis - yea, katie. lex. according to u-s defense officials, iran has assured them that the crew and their boats would be returned safely and promptly, perhaps sometime today. defense officials did not give more specifics on

happen , but say the plan is for the iranians to release the sailors to a u-s ship in the region. all of the sailors are reported to be okay. just into our newsoom - iran's state-run press t-v say a faulty navigation system is what caused the sailors to enter into iranian waters. us military officials tell say the crews and their boats were heading from kuwait to bahrain, when they lost contact with the u-s navy and drifted into iranian waters yesterday afternoon. ships and aircraft attached to the locally based uss harry s truman carrier strike group searched the area for the boats after contact was lost. according to officials, iran picked up the nine men and one woman and turned them over to the revolutionary guard. the two heavily-armed u-s navy riverine boats like these, are small, fast boats with about five people on board. according to the associated press, the sailors are part of the riverine

secretary of state john kerry said the two boats and the troops would be allowed to continue their journey in the persian gulf this morning after the transfer. rico, bush, 10 on your side. the president did not mention the navy-iran situation during last night's state of the union address. but he did touch on the nuclear deal with the country. today we will learn more about the state of virginia. governor terry mcauliffe will deliver his state of the commonwealth address tonight. it's scheduled to start at 7:00 followed by the republican response. in president obama's last state of the union address he encouraged americans to remain hopeful and not to embrace what he called "political hot air". he spoke about his achievements, the challenges we face in the future, and the need to condemn discrimination. he also touched on the need for both sides of the aisle to work together. 1:15 - 1:38 "democracy grinds to a halt without a willingness to compromise; or when even basic facts are contested, and we listen

said he was disappointed with president obama's strategy for defeating terrorism. he said in part: "success takes direct, decisive, and unambiguous action, not false hope and unfulfilled promises." wittman was also disappointed the president only spoke about veterans once. the congressman said "virginia has a significant veteran population, and every day, i hear from men and women who have sacrificed to defend the homeland, only to be met with bureaucratic red tape". we have much more on all aspects of the state of dot-com. today a virginia judge will hear arguments about donald trump's desire to block the party affiliation statement in the upcoming virginia republican primary. last month g-o-p leaders persuaded the virginia state board of elections to require primary voters to sign a statement pledging they are republicans. donald trump wants to stop that because he believes it will scare off new republican voters. three black pastors who support trump, filed a lawsuit against

saying the requirement violates their civil rights. virginia's republican primary is march 1st. happening today, attorney general loretta lynch is expected to discuss reforming the u-s criminal justice system. she's scheduled to visit a boston jail and mane the announcement. its all part of president obama's committment to make changes. lynch will meet with local leaders who work with inmates who are about to head back into society. a local lawmaker is trying to close a loophole that affects families of military members killed in action. the law was designed to give the surviving spouse an exemption from real estate property tax. christy billings thought she and her four kids qualified after her husband robert was killed on duty in afghanistan. a bomb killed robert and destroyed his stryker vehicle. crews airlifted him to a tent hospital in kandahar. since he died there and not on the spot of the attack, the government does not consider him "killed in

new this morning, oklahoma police just released dash cam video of a high-speed police chase. it happened last week as deputies tried to pull over the driver for speeding. but as you can see, he didn't stop. instead, he led investigators on a chase on the highways and city streets of oklahoma city.

iranian state television reports, the country has freed all u-s sailors. we're waiting for word from u-s officials. iran held the sailors overnight after they drifted into iranian experiencing mechanical problems with their iranian authorities said they held the crew and their boats at an iranian base of farsi island in the persian gulf. rico bush has been in our newsroom overnight -- following everything that's coming in on this. rico, lex, katie, we are still waiting confirmation about the release from u-s authorities. iran's revolutionary guard corps questioned the 10 sailors earlier this morning for several hours about their motives and actions. the iranians have demanded an apology from u-s officials. we want to show you a brand new picture of the sailors moments before their release. a foreign news agency photographer snapped this shot of the americans being held inside a room

according to u-s defense officials, the sailors and their two navy boats were heading from kuwait to bahrain when the u-s lost contact with them. ships and aircraft attached to the locally based uss harry s truman carrier strike group searched the area for the crew. iran said the boats had illegally crossed into iranian waters near farsi island and were picked up. nine men and one woman are said to be involved. we have done stories with locally based riverine squadrons in the past. you're looking at some video right now. they are small, heavily armed, fast boats, each with about five people onboard. according to the associated press, the sailors are part of riverine squadron one out of san diego. and, were deployed to the u-s navy's fifth fleet in bahrain. the sailors are expected to be transferred and released to a u-s ship in the region this morning to resume their journey. we will let you know when they're back in u-s custody. we're keeping an close eye on the developments. live in the newsroom,

we're following breaking news out of istanbul this morning. turkish officials say their authorities detained one person in connection to that suicide blast that killed 10 foreigners yesterday. most of the victims were german tourists. authorities did not provide any details about who the suspect is, or if that person is tied to any known terror groups. turkish media reported, police raided a home in istanbul and detained a woman suspected of having links to isis. more drama with leadership in portsmouth! new this morning, we're hearing from deputies after the sheriff tried to stop mayor kenny wright. it all started after last night's council meeting. sheriff bill watson tried to tell mayor wright about an expired inspection sticker on his car. deputies say the mayor brushed off the sheriff and drove away. watson went after

(1:18:56 34) (the clerk brought the soap back to then held her against her will and raped her while he was in the room) runs:12 etheridge fled to his grandmother's house after the attack. she brought him back the assault and kidnapping charges. looking ahead, hundreds of local shipyard jobs are in jeopardy. b-a-e systems in norfolk told 530 employees they will likely loose their jobs. the company said it's because there is another slowdown in work from the navy. the shipyard already let 185 people go back in november, and another 160
