you can see in this video - several crews carefully storing and cleaning up the chemicals used to make meth, then condemning the home. overnight, d-e-a agents and norfolk police ransacked the house on templar boulevard and found several items to helped them put forward a case against the residents. officers pried open a metal safe last night and seized most of the materials in it. according to a neighbor in the area, who didn't want to go on camera, undercover agents surrounded the home around 9 last night. they busted down a door down and barged inside of the home. shortly after the bust, we're told undercover agents detained several people. a nearby resident also says police took away a pet from the home. we are working to get more information on the meth bust, including pictures and possible charges on the residents. we'll keep you posted with that information as we get it. live in norfolk, rico bush, 10 on

new this morning police in newport news arrested a man they say shot and killed his ex- girlfriend last week. 25-year-old anthony smith junior is in jail this morning. police say he killed 25-year-old dashanika sherrod in her bedroom. her family says the two recently broke up. and the day after christmas, she took out a restraining order. smith was wanted on warrants for 1st degree murder and a gun charge. it was a tense night on the debate stage in south carolina, especially between the two leading republican candidates: donald trump and ted cruz. trump continued to hammer cruz on the birther issue, questioning whether or not he is eligible for presidency since he was born in canada to an american mother. cruz fired back

this morning, police are still looking for the man who forced authorities to lock down two schools on the peninsula. only chopper 10 was above thomas nelson community college and odu's peninsula higher education center yesterday. state police say it all started with a traffic stop on nearby interstate 64 in hampton. troopers say one of the men ran from the car,

administartors locked the campuses down as a precaution. students told us they were inside, waiting for the all-clear call. 2 supers c2 04:07 yeah we thought there was an armed assailant just running through the school, the campus and stuff we were just going whatever it took to get out of there alive really (runs :09) campus i saw a state trooper bringing out a big ginormous gun and i saying that we had to go to a shelter" (runs :14) troopers charged the driver, 19-year- old janelle quicho, with speeding, reckless driving and other vehicle violations. 21-year- old dehjan williams, with possession of marijuana. troopers have description of the third person who ran from the car. now to a follow up about that illegal hog farm in virginia beach. police say they've made an arrest. senior faces animal cruelty and several other charges.

last month, officers say they found more than 100 hogs living in deplorable conditions near salem road and winston avenue. animal control officers took the hogs and found them new homes. we have breaking new information about yesterday's deadly ultralight plane crash in middlesex county. state police just told us the name of the pilot. they say he is gilbert dennis gergory and that he lived in the town of glenns, in gloucester county. right now state investivators are trying to figure out what caused the crash. it happened around 2:00 yesterday afternoon about a mile from wake road in the small town of which is in a thick area of woods. the virginia forestry department had to use a bulldozer to get to the plane. state police say they were checking a device on board, used to deploy parachutes. we'll let you know if investigators get any new information. now to the political news many say, seemed to come out of nowhere. congressman scott rigell says he will not seek re-election when his term expires

the republican has represented the 2nd district for five years. it includes parts of virginia beach, norfolk and the eastern shore. rigell says he's proud of what his team has accomplished, including reducing discretionary government spending. he says he's happy with the decision he made with his family. running for that seat. this morning, 10 on your side is taking a closer look at the charges facing portsmouth mayor kenny wright. felony eluding. this after sheriff bill watson says, mayor wright refused to stop after a council meeting over an expired inspection sticker. but is felony eluding the right charge? an attorney told 10 on your side, felony eluding is usually reserved for high- speed chases. the sheriff says mayor wight refused to stop on a slow-speed chase. the attorney we talked to, doesn't believe this charge applies in this case. local four legged officers will get some help from journalist anderson cooper. we're getting this news just days after norfolk's police k-9 krijger died. a local organization called "spikes k-9 fund" says cooper will buy all the dogs

vests. cooper donated the money from his speaking fee for his upcoming "norfolk forum." that's scheduled for january 26th. he gave the money to the k-9 krijger ballistic vest campaign. his donation will provide vests for all police dogs in norfolk, as well as vests for others in hampton roads. police officers will say their goodbyes to krijger next week. a gunman shot and killed him during a stand off sunday night on land street. police shot that suspect, keith richardson. he died on tuesday. the norfolk police department scheduled krijger's funeral for tuesday at the police k-9 range. the dog will be buried in virginia beach. the ceremony is private, but you are welcome to pay tribute along the procession route. today we expect police to release more information on the double homicide that led to an officer shooting a suspect in newport news. the chaos began around 11 yesterday morning when a van crashed into a truck on wickham avenue, near 14th street. police found two men shot to death inside that van. witnesses

as soon as we find out. resupply missions to the international space station will soon launch again from the eastern shore. governor terry mcauliffe announced the new deal nasa made with orbital a- t-k. the contract comes more than a year after a rocket exploded after a launch on wallops island. no one was hurt, but the blast damaged the spaceport. the next launch is scheduled for late may or june. the virginia aquarium is caring for cold- stunned sea turtles. crews rescued a cold green sea turtle from kiptopeke state park this week. they said the turtle came in with a body temperature of 48 degrees. it's the second cold-stunned sea turtle they've rescued this season. the stranding response team is slowly warming this guy up. c0014 14;06;59 these guys are cold blooded so they're very sensitive to their environment -- that's when they end up getting
