a shroud of grief and saddness continues to hang over the chesapeake community after a tragic discovery. police found several members of the dooley family - murdered. as people struggle to understand what led to this horrific loved-ones and even strangers are remembering the dooleys in the best way they can. rico is outside the family's church where the them this weekend. rico, katie, don, tomorrow family and friends are scheduled to hold a second vigil to pay respects once more to a family loved and cherished by many in the communty. last night, hundreds of loved ones, neighbors, police officers, and even total strangers came together to remember the dooley family at temple

will be here in the temple baptist church parking lot. it's scheduled to start at 5 p-m. live in chespeake rico bush, 10 on your side. the chesapeake police department is also in mourning. among the lives lost is todd dooley, who retired from the force just two months ago. we spoke to chespeake city councilman robert ike, who also retired from the department. he says dooley served his community for more than 20 years. he was well-respected, and known as rock-solid backup when you needed it. robert ike - retired chesapeake police officer, chesapeake city council member "as a former police officer, i can only imagine what the community, the police brutal reality of this, is so sad." on social media, friends and colleagues are sharing photos of the chesapeake police badge shrouded in black. now we turn to the

shocking crime. let's take you through the time line of events. chesapeake police say this all started wednesday at around 3:30 in the afternoon. that's when officers went to check todd dooley's home on wildwood road. they found his son 22-year-old landon shot to death . then wednesday evening their investigation led them to this home on george washington highway. here officers began their standoff with the suspected gunman 26-year-old cameron dooley. after several hours of trying to negotiate with him, officers entered the home around 2:10 thursday morning and found cameron and his mother, father, sister, and grandmother dead. now police are left with the most puzzling part of the investigation - why this happened. and you can count on us to stay on top of every aspect of this investigation. we have extended coverage right now on wavy-dot-com. there you'll find more about the victims, photos from the crime scene, and reaction from the community. still ahead, shipyard

new this morning, some much-needed help for hampton roads shipyards. senators mark warner and tim kaine announced the navy will expedite repairs on three ships. they hope it helps our area shipyards, which are struggling because of a lack work. it's already forced thousands of of layoffs. we've been telling you about the layoffs for awhile now. we're still trying to figure out how this new announcement will impact them. newport news shipbuilding is in the process of laying off about 15-hundred people. another round is coming up in a few days. the president of newport news shipbuilding said back in december that 738 employees will be cut on february 3rd. that's in addition to 480 of people who lost their jobs back in september. under the navy's plan, repairs for the u-s-s tortuga, gettysburg, and winston churchill will be moved up by several

the hope is this will provide some work stability to the shipyards until the workload increases in 20-18. new this morning, a navy commander pleaded guilty to trading military secrets in exchange for money, plane tickets, prostitutes and lady gaga concert tickets. navy commander michael misiewicz.jpg the charges in a san diego federal court yesterday. he is the 8th person to plead guilty in a big corruption case. more than 100 people are still under investigation. today a chicago police officer who faces a first-degree murder charge, is expected to have court hearing about his upcoming trial. officer jason van dyke is accused of shooting 17-year-old laquan mcdonald 16 times in 20-14. the indictment against him says he acted without lawful justification when he shot mcdonald. he already pleaded not

portsmouth mayor kenny wright was supposed to appear in court today, but his case got pushed back. charge or allegedly trying to run from police earlier this month. the portsmouth sheriff says he tried to stop the mayor because inspection sticker, but the mayor kept going. the former portsmouth city manager is possibly considering running for mayor wright's job. 10 on your side caught up with john rowe at a community meeting last night. he said he's not saying no to the possibility. he also said he needs to discuss it with his family before making any decisions. at a meeting last night hosted by the group "people for portsmouth" more than 500 people came out to hear rowe speak about the perceived lack of transparency in city government. "if you were to take just a poll in here i think the sense was that there's not much trust, and if there's not much trust, then yes, local government has failed us."

the loss of a family in a murder-suicide is still in chesapeake. this morning is sure to be another emotional one for loved several family members died in that tragedy. police say cameron dooley turned a gun on his family, before shooting and killing himself. the biggest question many are struggling with today, is why? officers have not been able to give us that answer yet, but told us it started as a domestic incident. in total, six lives were lost. police say cameron killed his father, todd; mother, lori; brother, landon; and sister, brooke. our sources also confirmed dooley killed his grandmother, doris hundreds of loved ones, neighbors, police officers, and even total strangers

new this morning, the showing the deadly traffic stop involving armed protesters in oregon. agents released this video from a helicopter above the situation in burns. they say lavoy finicum's vehicle tried to go around a roadblock and got stuck in a snowbank. officials say they shot finicum when he got out of the truck and reached for his pocket. the f-b-i said there was handgun in that pocket. the occupation over federal buildings is not over. at least four people remain inside the body after crews put out house fire in south norfolk. investigating and have not yet released the victim's cause of death or how the fire started. it happened around noon thursday on

shot a responding officer. loya's attorney said an independent psychiatric evaluation found his client did not understand his actions were wrong. loya is currently being held in a state mental health facility. new this morning police in portsmouth are looking for a suspect who robbed a local cell phone store. officers say someone went into the metro p-c-s store on george washington highway with a weapon around seven last night. detectives on the case tell us no one got hurt. we're working to find out if police have a description of the suspect and if that person took anything from the store. call the crime line if you have any information in this case. happpening today, local four legged officers will be fitted with a potentially life saving vest in virginia beach. it's all made possible because of a generous donation from anderson cooper and spikes k-9 fund. 38 police k-9s in hampton roads will receive ballistics vests. we're told each one costs 25-hundred dollars and weeks to make.
