The Lake Conference has the top four teams in the Class AA rankings in girls hockey. Those four teams were in action in the final two games of the Lake Conference Showcase at Plymouth Ice Center Saturday.
After No. 1 Minnetonka edged No. 4-ranked Edina, it was No. 2-ranked Hopkins taking on No. 3-ranked Wayzata in the finale. The game was scoreless through two periods, with Wayzata getting the best of things in the first period and Hopkins controlling the second.
With just under five minutes remaining in the third period, Wayzata wing Kaitlyn Klein pounced on a loose puck in the faceoff circle just after a draw and fired a quick shot past Royals goalie Erin O'Neil, for a 1-0 Wayzata victory.
Wayzata sophomore goalie Sarah Stelter withstood a late Hopkins flurry to preserve the shutout and keep Wayzata unbeaten. The Trojans are 12-0-1 and they have another tough one Tuesday as they play at Minnetonka.
