the discs are for to install during the installation process of windows 3.1
since windows 3.1 was so huge (during that time) they had to use six floppy disks to fit all of windows 3.1's components
correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want to install windows 3.1, you will have to download all disks.

I am a bit slow mentally, but managed to install MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.1 onto Virtualbox. Once I got it working I felt as happy as a fox yokai. Big 5/5 for this upload!

Windows 3.11 disks are not bootable. You need to install MSDOS on Virtualbox and then run setup from Disk 01.

I followed @ladidah's guide and it went without a hitch! I had to adapt a little cuz I'm on Linux Mint 20.2 (had to mount the disk images instead of using 7z to get at the files) but after that ... Dosbox is Dosbox on any platform :)

You can't just load the first disk, you must install MS DOS 6.22 first then load the setup file in the first disk image.

Subject: Very good, very nice (and here is some newcomer advice!)
The disk files installed perfectly, unlike the ones from shadier websites (that somehow come up before this in a google search) that just said "win" was not a command.
Runs at what seems to be full speed in VirtualBox, thank you!
HOW TO SET UP
Method 1: The quick and easy way for cheapos
Go to https://archive.org/details/msdos_win3_1 to use Windows 3.1 in your browser. Comes with lots of apps and even saves your disk! (So long as you don't use Archive.org MAME for anything else.
Method 2: Install to VirtualBox
Open VirtualBox to install new machine
Install Windows 3.1 machine, it defaults to Windows but not 3.1
Continue with installation until asked to set up a disk. Go to https://www.dropbox.com/s/fhctg76o0k3ow1e/Win31.vhd?dl=0 to download Windows 3.1 hard disk. Choose the option in VirtualBox to set up with an existing Disk file. choose the file you just got from Dropbox and the setup dialog will die. Now hit green "Start" Arrow and you will go to MS-DOS with a banana. now type command "win" and enjoy!!!
(My grammar deteriorated with every line of that thing)

I have used the disks to install Windows 3.1 in my dosbox.
And it works beautifully.
Open each of the 6 disks with 7z and extract it to a folder, that can be the C-folder in dosbox.
Start dosbox and mount that folder as C.
Then SETUP the system.
And everytime you want to use windows 3.1,
start dosbox, mount that folder as C, goto CD Windows then type WIN and voila: windows 3.1.
THANKS UPLOADER !

First: STOP spamming links from a dangeorous website.
Second: The files uploaded here are the floppy image files from the Win 3.1. installation floppies. They work perfectly. (You need a program to use them or simply mount them in dosbox!)
Yes, the name is very misleading, but the content is good.
