This movie made in World of Warcraft appropriates the "Numa Numa Dance" web phenomenon. The dance movie is set to DiscO-Zone's Dragostea Din Tei, a pop title by a Rumanian band made popular by GMan250's webcam-based dance movie distributed originally at Newgrounds.com. The Film Actors Guild's "Numa Numa Dance" is one of several movies that have reworked this idea in game spaces, literally appropriating the appropriated for another round of circulation. This is the last episode of MoonBaseNine, a very short-lived public access fan-vid series (only 3 were made) based on the MST3K comedy series. It featured Commander Phil and Fanghorn the talking plant. By this show I had given up doing the series; the cartoon shorts did not lend themselves very well to riffing; I dropped the whole shadowrama idea and just let the series end. Phil Dejean returned as Phil the Commander. Nathaniel Torres provides the voice of Fanghorn. In this episode Fanghorn is...

From The Learning Company of America, a Division of Columbia, comes this animated cartoon about king Boris in the Kingdom of Snark, the purpose of elections and the influence of voting. Very educational and even after 35 years (today we write 2007) nothing has changed. The official title is "Why we have elections" and the second, unofficial title is "The Kings of Snark". At the start of the Afghan War, I heard the title's classic Cold-War motto resurrected by Texas Congressman Dick Armey. Oddly enough, it made me think of the Lewis Carroll poem "The Voice of the Lobster," in which the Panther and the Owl sit down to negotiate an agreement. The story just seems to have a timely ring about it.

My cousins used to play this odd little game; they were about five and three years old at the time. The older one would pick up the remote control to the TV, point it at her sister, and say “Turn you off”–she’d obligingly fall to the ground and play dead. Then the remote changed hands, they’d change places, and the game would begin all over again. It was carried out with the solemn gravity of an execution by firing squad. This short is a grown-up version of the same game, played with...

Here are my favorite selections from my videography as of 2012, in Blu-ray-quality H.264 and WebM formats: over thirty shorts, with a total runtime of one and a half hours. What’s in the collection? Hand-drawn and CG animation, spoken-word performance, narrative live-action, animated documentary, abstract visual music, and realtime digital puppetry. Includes SXSW winner "The Orange."
