Dury Lane Mysteries: Book 2.  Frederic Dannay, with his cousin Manfred B. Lee wrote under the pseudonym Barnaby Ross, but all of those works were subsequently reissued under the name of Ellery Queen, another joint pseudonym of the two men.

These children have a severe visual loss due to an ocular abnormality, retrolental fibroplasia.

Released as "Futility" in 1898 and revised as "The Wreck of the Titan" in 1912. Story features a fictional British ocean liner that sinks in the North Atlantic after striking an iceberg.  Includes the short story "Beyond the Spectrum", which described a future war between the United States and the Empire of Japan. The title refers to an ultraviolet searchlight used by the Japanese to blind American crews.
