We use Barbara's study sheets in many of our Friday night meetings in 2019 and 2020 where we were studying the Iliad with Pierre, and considering how this re-translation changes the meaning of each of these passages, and the books and work as a whole. Thank you, Barbara! There are currently...

Women Beware Women is a Jacobean tragedy written by Thomas Middleton, and first published in 1657. For modern critics, Women Beware Women has regularly been paired with The Changeling as constituting Middleton's two noteworthy late achievements in the genre of tragedy - though Women Beware has usually been judged the lesser of the two works. The bloody masque that concludes the play has been called by Dorothy M. Farr a "ridiculous holocaust." With growing critical attention over the...

Richard Le Gallienne was an English poet and critic, who, although unfamiliar with the Persian language, had a profound interest in the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. In 1897 he published a collection of 211 quatrains, which was based on earlier English translations, in particular the prose version by Justin Huntly McCarthy. A expanded edition with fifty additional quatrains was published in 1901 and is presented here. For ease of navigation the quatrains have been numbered.
