The City of Orlando planning to launch a Community Violence Intervention program, designed to reduce gun violence and provide support - through credible messengers in the community - to the small amount of individuals who research shows are most likely to shoot someone or be shot themselves. The initiative will be modeled on research and best practices from other communities that has found that highly targeted and personal intervention with those at the highest risk for committing or being a victim of gun violence can lead to significant reductions in community violence.
Lisa Early, our Director of Children and Education, Families, Parks and Recreation, shares insight into the plans for the initiative.
