@Classics4me346 I concur 100%!! It was exactly the same for me. I started listening one day in the office, after work, while doing my backlog of filing and that's it, I was hooked!!
David's narration of the book is so amazing that I have the book playing in the background all the time. At work, cooking in the kitchen, driving to places, brushing my teeth, I mean EVERYWHERE. I was even listening to it (using my wireless headphones ) on Christmas day while stuffing the chicken!!! Lol
My husband said he will be glad when am finished. He can't wait. He wants his wife back. Lol

Seriously, I THANK YOU DAVID!! I feel like I owe you money because it’s that good! I started listening reluctantly while I was working late and then ...I stayed up late every night until it was done! I was listening everywhere possible. In public gasping aloud as the plot twists turns and unfolds ... it was brilliant and David makes this remarkable work come alive! My wife said when I was done, It’s nice to have my husband back! Don’t tell her, I am going through it again!

David Clark does a superb job reading this book. To begin with, I as an American love his British accent. To continue, he has a wonderful range of all the various male and female character voices. As if that wasn't enough, he exquisitely performs the French and Italian accents. Then doesn't he even go and improve on the English accent when he does Lord Wilmore! Clark is one of the best readers whom I have heard.

I have been listening to this in bits and pieces, whenever I get a chance, for almost two months, and now that I have finally finished it I am thinking of listening to it again.
There are many great readings on Librivox, but in my opinion David Clarke's is the greatest of them all, if not the greatest reading of any book anyplace.
Fifty-six hours read flawlessly and magnificently. Amazing! Bravo!!!

If you can listen to a only a single audiobook, this is the one to choose. A literary masterpiece, as well as a stunning work of oral interpretation. Thank you David Clarke for your contribution. If I could give this ten stars, I would.

Loved David Clarke's reading of this epic tale. The story in and of itself is engrossing and Clarke deftly presents the various characters with smooth transitions in accent and dialect. With each chapter, I sat up in my chair (at work) just a little more, inching my way to the edge of the seat, as well as to the thrilling conclusion. Cheers to Dumas and cheers to Clarke for bringing it all to life.

This is my favorite book and by far my favorite audio recording of it. David pronounced every foreign word and place with such ease that I thought he might be bilingual! He gave the characters so much life that I often found myself totally captivated by his reading. Absolutely wonderful!

Thank you, David Clarke! I have seen several movie versions but have never read the book. I just 'stumbled' onto librivox two days ago. The first book I listened to was an 'old' favorite of mine.
I started listening to another group of readers for this book and as I read the comments, saw your comment. I went to your link and started the book at the beginning. You have a MOST pleasant voice and read QUITE well! I prefer to hear you read as to see another movie! Well DONE! I hope you have read more. I will be looking to see if you have. Again, THANK YOU, David Clarke!

The best Librivox reading I have ever heard. I put off this book for years, due to the size of the story.. and am glad I waited, because this version, made me absolutey LOVE this book. It is now one of my all-time favorites. I can't read well due to to eyesight problem, and rely heavily on audiobooks these days to get my fill. This reading was a dream. I read "The Count of Monte Cristo" for the first time a few months ago and now I consider it my all-time favorite book. I came across your recording of the book shortly after I completed my first reading. What a delight! Your voice is just perfect for this endeavor! Since my first reading of "The Count of Monte Cristo," I have begun to re-read the book, this time doing background research as I go, and I listen to your wonderful recording, either in conjunction with the reading, or after I complete a chapter. Thank you for your contribution to one terrific adventure!!!

This is by far the most delightful reading of a book that I have had the pleasure of listening to from Librivox (which is generally the only source of my audiobooks). The book is excellent, far better than I expected, and David Clarke's reading is better than super. I do hope he reads more books. Any book that I choose next will be a letdown.

David Clarke has done an absolutely masterful reading of this classic novel. The accents he adopts for each character not only help the reader to keep characters distinct in their minds, but also very much brings the story to life.
This is a dramatic, eventful story, read by a reader highly capable of propelling it along.
Highest possible recommendation.

I'm so glad there's a professional quality public domain version of "The Count of Monte Cristo." It's too good and too classic a book to not have this.

David Clarke nailed it with this version. The characters truly come alive. Couldn't be read better with a solo voice. I really look forward to listening to more of Mr. Clarke's interpretations.
