The Cure in Orange is a concert film by British rock group The Cure. It was filmed at the Théâtre antique d'Orange in the French countryside (Orange, Vaucluse), on 8, 9, and 10 August 1986. Band members Robert Smith (Vocals & guitar), Simon Gallup (Bass guitar), Porl Thompson (Keyboards, guitar and saxophone), Boris Williams (Drums), and Lol Tolhurst (Keyboards) make their way through 23 songs, under the direction of Tim Pope.
Technical: Sourced from NTSC laserdisc, with the two disc sides edited into one continuous 114 minute video. This laserdisc was found in a bag outside an antique store labeled "free!" It is scratched a bit, but more so at the beginning of each side. Concert was filmed on 35mm film, and the conversion to laserdisc seems relatively poor, with visible dust in the transfer. Audio is good stereo. The NTSC composite signal was zoomed so that the letterboxed image just filled the screen vertically. Some minor luma and chroma corrections were applied. The video was converted to 1080p60 with each interlaced field converted to a frame, to preserve image quality and motion. Reverse telecine to 24 fps did not work well, possibly because of the type of transfer to NTSC laserdisc from a PAL master.
