Subject: Great night!!!!
Subject: Great night!!!!
Like the dead, DNB, is all the more in person.the aura of being there, me and my girl rolled up to this once happening brewery in Sebastopol,ca, not in the regular bar, but they have a back room, with a stage, and even though we were a little late, nothing like opening the front door to a high energy Cumberland, and a small, but energetic crowd that night, the experience is always aplus with the DNB, thanks guys!!!!

Bar bands aren't for everyone. Intonation is the least of their worries: drowning out a typically raucous audience in a room with oil drum acoustics is the primary objective.
If you want top and bottom, you have to record through the SB. Even if the band's label deal allows it, you then risk getting what sounds like an unrehearsed studio recording, with every flaw magnified. If you want the live "feel," you use floor mikes, let the top and bottom disappear, and boost the midrange to bring the melody line above the background noise. It often ain't pretty, but it's what you'd hear if you were there.
This is a high-energy set of solid and occasionally unusual material by a group of skilled, mature players, about as well recorded as the venue probably allowed. Throw out the poorly miked vocals on "Lochnivar" and "It Makes No Difference" and, depending upon your taste, the fatigued vocals on "The Wheel," and you have a set well worth the drive space for fans of the genre.
P.S.: The recordist did the best he could with Lochnivar and It Makes No difference. His setup wasn't prepared for off-center lead vocals by the bass player, and the band probably didn't cooperate by changing stage positions for these numbers.

Sorry guys but this just doesn't cut it. The singing is awful, intonation way off. The playing is average. Believe me, there are better bands out there. Very messy arangements in parts, in part due to some bad timing. Tape quality isn't too bad, but as with all the archive.org stuff I've downloaded to date, it needs serious tweeking to bring out top and bottom ends. The signal on this particular tape is pretty low. Sorry!!

This is an excellent show. The sound quality is incredible, very clean taping. Highly advised that you download this one if you love the DNB as much I do. There are a few tracks of the second set that didnt get posted to this archive as of yet. I bet they are sweet. Regardless all that is here, is pure music to the ears. I reiterate, this is a great show!
