This glorious silent film shows the National Junior Air Races, held in Cleveland, Ohio. The Scripps-Howard National Junior Air Races are almost completely forgotten, but in the 1930s and 40s they represented the premiere competitive arena for aircraft modelers, radio-control and control line pilots.  This rare silent home movie dates to 1939 - 1942, but probably 1942. It was shot by a member of the Cleveland Press staff.  It shows many of the events at the Races, including the weigh-in that...

This Royal Canadian Air Force film shows a military plane crash and its aftermath, with one uninjured crewman doing his best to keep injured cohorts alive until help arrives.  The title of the film is not certain (because the opening title is missing!) but we believe it is called "No Time to Lose".  The scenario unfolds as the plane's crew, already low on fuel and with an engine out, learns that their base is completely fogged in.  Moments later a second engine failure dooms the...

Coastal Command is a documentary style account of the Shorts Sunderland and PBY Catalina flying boats during the Battle of the Atlantic. Produced in 1945, "On to Tokyo" is a cautionary film made by the U.S. Army Pictorial Service. Featuring Chief of Staff George Marshall, the film speaks to the troops who won the war against Germany about the absolute necessity to defeat the Japanese. "They think we will grow tired of war," says Marshall, "and call it quits...our purpose is to crush Japan just as quickly as we can." To do this, Allied forces must be redeployed as soon as possible, and sent to Asia...

Made during WWII in 1942, this profile of the Free French Navy begins with footage of a Frenchman escaping to England to join the fight against the Axis.  The Free French Navy Headquarters in London is shown, along with sailor cadet training at sea aboard sailing vessels.  The most unique vessel shown is at the 4 minute mark, where the submarine Sourcouf is shown, followed by various French destroyers, and British built Corvettes manned by Frenchmen at the 5:30 mark.      Les Forces...
