An animated version of Edgar Allan Poe's short story. It tells of Prince Prospero who, determined to keep the plague that is ravaging the countryside away, barricades himself and his court in his castle. The mole is tending his flowers, sharing them with various insects, when to his horror he discovers a set of stakes being used to mark the path of a road to be built right through his domain. At first he tries to reason with the huge bulldozer that proceeds along this track, but when that fails he digs a trench into which the machine falls. While it is helpless, the mole stakes out another route, neatly curving it around his garden and thus saving it from destruction.
