Good Psychological Thriller
A rather lyrical - some might find it drawn out - examination of a marriage gone bad, a love affair suddenly ended, a new one begun and the deteriorating mental state of the man at the center of these events, There are wonderful street scenes and party scenes evocative of turn-of the century Paris and the artist's life in the Latin Quarter. There are finely acted parts boyj large and small. Derrick De Marney is an even-tempered artist who loves and is loved by the lovely, somewhat naive Joan Greenwood, another artist's wife. Beresford Egan is the husband - kind and loving upon marriage, he develops a mean streak verging on madness when he discovers his wife's infidelity. She disappears on the day the lovers were to run away and lover De Mornay becomes depressed and despondent. After he moves into the studio formerly occupied by Egan, even with a new love in his life, he slowly becomes unhinged, unreasonably temperamental. It turns out there are supernatural occurrences in the studio. His doctor, a witness to the weird phenomena, suggests a seance as the key to understanding what is happening. Watch the movie and find ot what happens.
