Reel three of three. The film
primarily records Sharat Kumar Roy’s expeditions to Central American to study
volcanoes. At the time Roy was the Chief Curator for the Department of Geology
at the Field Museum. The reels are an amalgamation of films from the
Salvadorean Project (1950-1951), the Mexico Geological Field Trip (1953), the
El Salvador Field Trip (1954), and the Central America Geological Expedition
(1955). On several of the expeditions, Roy had the co-cooperation of the
Instituto Tropical San Salvador. The film also includes scenes of daily life,
flora, and fauna of Central America. Please note the Division of Motion
Pictures edited Roy's films and spliced sections of the film
“El Parícutin”
(1946; photographed by Ralph E. Gray) into this production.
