what's the hype about?
Sound quality: 3 of 5 stars. I was the taper, and i was too far back for the first half of the show .. very back of the venue and the sound is really boomy in this venue anyway. that coupled with a slightly malfunctioning MD deck, makes this show a wonder it was even recorded and not eaten by the machine.
Show quality: 2 of 5 stars. bleh. i was there that night just for the opener, and decided to stay and tape because I knew some people out there might be fans of gavin's... i don't know, i just wan't feeling him. he seemed like a cocky 'i'm so great' dude with little skills backing him up. his band seemed detatched from him and the music was bland. predictable riffs and rock-star postering was just a turn-off for me. the place was barely 1/4 full, and when his set was done everyone seemed to be happy to get out of there. it was only after the lights went on and everyone was filtering out did he come out and sheepishly do an encore, with half of the crowd already gone. the coup de' tat though was while leaving, there was a 'meet and greet line' of people at the merch booth. i noticed that the band of michael tolcher's (the middle opening act) was at the end of the line. i congradulated them on a great show and a great performance and asked why they were in line to meet gavin? They replied that though they had been on a month long multi-state tour, they still haden't met him, because 'after the show he was always busy with girls'... to me that was poor showmanship, not even meeting the band opening for you. Gavin deSuck won't be getting my ticket money again.
sorry for such a harsh review, and please don't flame me or anything, i was just putting my honest thoughts about the show i went to and taped. I"m sure a lot of peole like his stuff, it just isn't for me.
