Geek Brief TV

GeekBrief.TV was a tech podcast that explained and sometimes reviewed new gadgets, websites and toys. It was created by self-proclaimed geeks Luria Petrucci (aka Cali Lewis) and her husband Neal Campbell. It circles around the idea of a Geek Intelligence Agency (GIA) that provides knowledge to geeks everywhere. The reason for GeekBrief.TV being so short is because, according to Cali, geeks don't have time to hear an in depth report.

've been a little bus obsessed for the last couple of days. Our lease is up on May 21st. Our plan has been to downsize and move into a small apartment for the summer while we finish planning The Big Trip . Even though we won't be ready to hit the road, we're really anxious to get the bus and start geeking it out for the trip. Times is an RSS feed reader for Mac that is beautiful. On Brief #298 I stop by the Ecamm booth to see what may have been the coolest thing at Macworld. Right before the expo, they made it possible for the iPhone camera to stream video directly to your Mac . Of course, the iPhone has to be hacked. At the Rain booth, I'm drooling to have one (or two) of these personal workstations in our GBTV set. Then, I talk with an inspiration for us, Gina Hughes from TechieDiva.com and Yahoo! Tech . I also play with a fun little gadget from iFrogz, the Audiowrapz...

Brief #300 should be a more valiant effort, but we're completely sick, so here's more coverage from Macworld! I visit the Exslim booth to take a look at the EX-F1 camera. It shoots at 1200 frames per second! You can see the video I mention here . Then I test out Ultimate Ears earbuds. Most of you know the Snowball Mic from Blue. At Macworld, I found the Snowflake, a miniature and mobile version of the Snowball.

It took 40 minutes to update my iPhone with the 2.0.1 update , but so far, it's been good. The most annoying issue fixed by the update (for me) was how hitting the delete button once would activate delete, delete, delete, delete, etc., until my whole line of text disappeared. John Carmack, anything but an Apple fanboi says the iPhone is more powerful than the Nintendo ds and PSP combined. The Boynq Swing is possibly the greatest design for a USB hub ever conceived. Top 10 Geek Movies This is an entirely subjective top 10 list. Feel free to disagree and post your alternative list as a comment. It'll be fun! Most Top 10 Geek Movies lists are all about movies geeks love. If we did it that way, our list would be very different and include movies like Aeon Flux, Serenity, Sin City, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Instead, our choices were based on movies about geeks. Note: This Brief was originally produced for PodShow.com downtime while they upgraded...

Even though I grew up in Texas, there's not a lot of evidence in my accent. I have a handful of words where it comes out. The main one is my pronunciation of the word "vehicle". I tend to pronounce it "veehickel" and every time I do, it cracks Neal up. This is an episode from a few months back, where we didn't publish the bloopers because we weren't sure anyone would think it was funny other than us. We watched it again, and we still think it's funny, so you be the judge! :)

We shot this Brief as I was driving through north Washington state. It was too rainy to get out and shoot a regular Brief, so I decided to review the Navicore Navkit GPS system. It works with the N800 and certain Nokia phones. Overall, I love it and it's a great device, but there are three things about it that drive me crazy every time we take a trip. That's what this Brief is about.

Gibson Guitars has made tuning a breeze with their Robot Guitar. I've finally found a peer to peer file sharing service that I believe will stay in business. There's a new smart pen called Livescribe Smartpen that not only records what you write with it, it also records audio while you write. The firmware update for the Nokia N810 also works for the N800, and a new...

At GBTV, we like experimenting and living on the cutting edge of what technology is ready to allow. Over the past few weeks, I've interviewed about 20 people inPodcasting on Skype. Making my way through the Apple TV Take 2 update I found much to like. It's a gift to podcasters and our viewers and listeners. The movie rental experience is nearly perfect. Access to Flickr photos via Apple TV is nothing but fun. The improvements are really, really nice, but with this update Apple accomplished something they'll probably never promote. They created the closest thing I've seen to a grandmother computer, and by grandmother, I'm referring to the tech averse type. Many, many of...

Today was an exciting day! Steve Jobs had three big announcements today at the 2007 MacWorld Keynote. The first was Apple TV, which allows you to stream entertainment wirelessly to your TV. Here are some specs: 40GB hard drive, WiFi - 802.11b/g/n, USB 2, Ethernet, HDMI, 720p High Def Video. It works on a PC or a Mac, and will start shipping in February. The second was the iPhone, a mobile phone, widescreen iPod, and Internet Communicator. It's a multi-touch screen with only one button. It...

A while back, someone suggested we release an episode without any edits, so people can see what shooting a Brief is like from start to finish. Interestingly enough, it usually takes us about an hour to shoot. Doing it this way only took 18 minutes. The normal production timeline is about four hours to research and write the episode, an hour to shoot, and about three or four hours for graphics, compression and uploading.
