In 1985 Ronald Reagan was President, The Cosby Show was the most popular on TV, Microsoft released Windows 1.0 and Coca Cola changed their century old secret formula. And . . . . The 29th Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival Parade aired in 1985, featuring Debra Sue Maffett, Miss America 1983, as the parade’s Grand Marshal. The theme of the parade that year was “It’s A Family Affair.” The parade was hosted by Dana Atkins, a former Miss Orange County, and the well known Jerry Margolin who was among other things, Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1993, Cypress College Citizen of the Year and a former Strawberry Festival Association President. Celebrities in the 1985 parade included: Kim Fields (“The Facts of Life”), Alan Campbell (“Three’s A Crowd”), Patrick Peterson (“Knott’s Landing”), Jerry Douglas and Joy Garrett (“The Young and the Restless”), Richard Moll (“Night Court”), Lana Clarkson (“Barbarian Queen”), Mandy Ingbar (“Hail To The Chief”) and Julie Parrish (“Capitol”) and Timothy Gibbs (“Our Family Honor”). Yes, it was 36 years ago, but doesn't it seem like it was just yesterday?
