Influenced by the Winans, Commissioned, and Take 6, Selections' urban sound is definitely moving gospel music into a realm where praising God is exciting and modern without compromising the traditional. If hard core musicianship and rhythms are more your style, the band is sure to satisfy with their stage performance. They offer the dynamic energy required to become a solid talent.
Together since 1987, the group has survived a limited market and the career struggles of young Canadian musicians. Their 1994 nationally distributed debut album, self-titled "Selections", received national radio play and acclaim in both the secular and gospel forum. These musicians just don't know how to quit and their track record shows it:
· Debut performance at the Canadian Golden Note Awards show in June 1986. . · 1988 Golden Note Award Winners for "Best New Group" · Debut album self-titled "Selections" distributed by Awake Records in Europe and South Africa, distributed by Attic/MCA in Canada and distributed by Wild Joker/T3 Records in the U.S.A. · Stage Appearances: with artists Michael Brooks, Earl Wright Jr., Ronald Winans, Jackie Richardson, Salome Bey, Oscar Peterson, Deborah Cox, Pinball Clemens, Tonya Lee Williams, Sheemar Moore and Gladys Knight. · Radio Play (Medium to High rotation): Energy 108, AM-640, CIUT, CKLN, CJCB (Sydney), Z95.3 (Vancouver), The Bridge (Vancouver), BBC (London U.K.) WBLK (Buffalo) including over 120 Radio Stations in the U.S. · Television Appearances: Breakfast Television, Lunch Television, Da Mix, Live & Interactive, Eye on Toronto, Crossroads Broadcasting, 100 Huntley Street, 700 Club, Prayer Palace, Peoples Church and The Candy Staten Show (Atlanta, GA). · General Appearances: In concert for a variety of churches, social groups, television shows and corporate sponsored events. Throughout their career they have travelled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, performing at both the Montreal and Toronto Jazz festivals. · 1999 Juno Award Nominees for "Best Gospel Album"
Supported through prayer and by family and friends, Selections has been able to develop a stronger ministry. The principle of putting God first in everything, helps them measure their successes by the positive effect that their music has on the lives of people young and old.
In 1998, Selections commenced their sophomore album project "Our Message". This recording, under the direction of Eddie Bullen, captures the unconventional spirit of the group. Love Will Conquer All is a loungy spin to Lionel Richie's top hit ballad, while Keep On has a high intensity Hip-Hop flavour which compels the listener to an energetic praise.
Released in November 1998, "Our Message" is produced, arranged, manufactured and distributed by Canadians. This album promises an exceptional spiritual experience that will consume your heart and mind with their testimony in song. They are Selections, and their message is in delivering a ministry of hope.
