70s Grease Job
This is as bad as it can get good. We find out why Paula Abdul is a dancer and not a singer ( as a matter of fact did the casting crew require that any of the kids be absolutely abysmal at carrying a note ? ) and being a Leif Garret look alike means you got a shot at the cool foxy chic? 1970s schmaltz at a red alert cheese level. Great Fun!

However cliche, some films are just "so-bad-they're good."
Somewhere I'd picked up that Paula Abdul played a role in this film. I had also thought that her role was larger, but it's not. It's actually a small role. It's probably a good thing. While she's not all that great in this film, she does stick out as one of the more talented. It's probably a good thing that she doesn't have a larger role, because if she did, she would have shown up everyone else. And that's why it succeeds.
Yes, it's bad. The plot and dialogue are incredibly cliche. It's poorly acted and the music is lackluster and poorly performed. Had Abdul had a larger part, she couldn't have saved it. Because she didn't, however, it keeps a flow. It's a flow of cheesy dialogue and musical numbers performed by talentless people, but it's a flow nonetheless. Had Abdul had a larger part, that flow would have been broken. It's this flow that puts the movie into the "so-bad-it's-good" category. For those of you who are fans of this kind of film, it's highly recommended.
The only other comments that come to mind is how painfully dated and politically incorrect by today's standards it is. Bullying, body-shaming and kids smoking are all present. Furthermore, they're all deemed funny. Junior high was several years away for me in 1978. Even so, I do remember these things being a part of how things were. Regardless of anyone's take about those things, the film is accurate, even if over-dramatized.
For those of you who are fans -- like me -- of "so-bad-it's-good", I recommend you watch.

Permission To Use Request
Hi!
I love this short film and would like to use the opening three minutes as a background video for a lyric video of one of my original songs. There was no copyright type listed on the film, and I wanted to reach out and see if it was in the Public Domain/if I could use it for my purposes. Please let me know! Thank you for sharing.

LOL
I thought Plan 9 from Outer Space was bad, this one is either tied or a super close second place. Like Plan 9, this movie is so bad, it's fun to watch.

Sherri
Sherri is played by none other than Paula Abdul. This really brings back the memories of school in the seventies. I love the clothes the girls wear and the boys hair cuts.

A Perfect Short Musical, in spite of the sound quality
I saw this "gem", not long after it was available in 16mm while I was in school in Champaign Urbana. The film fraternity at the time, acquired it and showed it frequently. I just don't remember that the slow wow, in the sound track being as overwhelming. I'm sure this copy would turn any new audience off from watching the complete movie. Junior High School (JHS) has a lot of things going for it. Choreography and photography are extremely well done. The casting is amazing. I just wish the sadistic nerd was used much more in tv and film at the time in the late 70's. What a perfect character. This musical really captures the school environment of that era. I just wish the sound track wow could be removed.
