Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Includes descriptions of whales seen or taken, accidents, deaths at sea, illnesses, injuries, and desertions. Also contains inventories of provisions and crew accounts in addition to documentation of procedures for processing and stowing whale oil and bone. The keeper lists provisions taken onboard during the voyage between the dates of 31 December 1848 and 1 January 1849. James Ryder drowned on August 5, 1846. One man lost three fingers as a result of an accident with the rigging equipment on 17 December 1846. On 12 February 1847 and 21 August 1847, William Perkins and Samuel White deserted. The keeper reported an outbreak of venereal disease among the crew from February 1848 to March 1848. There was an outbreak of smallpox onboard the vessel in October 1848, and Charles Walter died from smallpox on October 13, 1848. Other places represented include Hood Island (Galapagos), Isla de la Plata [Plata Island], and Block Island (Rhode Island). Whaling grounds include the Bay of Panama, On Shore, Galapagos, Juan Fernandez, Callao, Falkland Islands, and Coast of Chile grounds.
