The Lanterman House History Center and Archives makes available documents and photographs pertaining to the development of La Canada and Flintridge, beginning with their independent identities as a part of unincorporated Los Angeles County, through their merger and transition to cityhood in 1976, and continuing into the present. Another large part of the collection pertains to the Lanterman family, the founders of La Canada Flintridge, including the two careers o...

Gertrude Cain (1897-1992) was an early La Canada resident who was a theater organist and pianist for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC). She recalls her early days in La Canada and meeting the Manchester Boddy family. Also included are her memories of the Lanterman family and the beginnings of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Jesus Oseguera (1906-1993) and his wife, Braulia (1910-2000), lived in what was known as "Old Town" La Canada. They share stories about their work in agriculture and the Los Angeles County Flood Control before La Canada land was developed into homes. Jim Huntington (1894-1984) moved to early La Canada in 1914 and opened the Huntington Iron Works on the main street. He worked closely with U.S. Senator from California, Frank Flint, during the senator's development of Flintridge, which later became part of the city of La Canada Flintridge.
