American and Russian space officials, led by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of the launch of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, and the 30th anniversary of the first shuttle mission, STS-1, during a gala celebration at the home of John Beyrle, U.S. Ambassador to Russia. The celebration culminated a week's worth of tributes to the twin anniversaries.
