The Door County Magazine (Winter 2010-11) included an article "Old Frequency", which talks about Amateur Radio, including operators in Door County. In Door County, the first official amateur radio operators' club was organized by Sturgeon Bay High School students.  Amateurs and fans met for the first time on January 19, 1923.

In the corner of Myron Jackson's classroom at Madison Junior High School sits a collection of mix-and-match radio equipment, a hand-me down computer and old teletype machines. This is the school's brand new ham radio station and all-around gathering place for students who are just beginning to discover an exciting pastime with global possibilities. Jackson has managed to make ham radio relevant in foreign language classes, English, social studies and science.

About 25 members of the Neenah-Menasha Amateur Club turned out Saturday for the group's annual "Amateur Radio Field Day," as part of a national test of emergency communications equipment.  The club attempted to contact as many other stations as possible within the 24 hours operating with voice and Morse code.  Above, Elaine Weinig logs contacts made by Steve Kunstman, while Henry Rowland, below communicates via telegraphy equipment.  The club made about 600 contacts.

Gary Jungwirth was one of several amateur radio operators who worked at the national field day Saturday and  Sunday.  Operating from the WDOR FM tower site, the "hams" tried to log as many contacts as possible in the 24 hour period.  In a national emergency amateurs could serve as a communications link for the nation.

Harry H. Heinrich W9KPG 1911-6/10/2001 Harry H. Two top amateur radio operators awards have been awarded to avid ham operator Paul Niles. The coveted awards include the WAZ certificate and the number 200 sticker for the DX Century club. The WAZ initals stand for working all zones.  Ont the radio operator's map the entire world is divided into 40 zones.  These zones cover every country from one pole to the other. The 200th sticker is awarded to any amateur operator who confirmed contact with 200 foreign stations.
