Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic Ocean, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Includes descriptions of whales seen or taken, accidents, illnesses, shipboard medicine, interactions with natives, injuries, a death at sea, punishment, and women on ships. Also contains references to taking supplies and provisions at various ports. The captain brought his wife and sister onboard, and the captain's sister (Eliza "Lizzie" Wing) was treated several times for her sickness but died on October 18, 1859, and her body was put in a coffin that was placed in a cask to be sent home. The captain caught the Third Mate sleeping on duty and demoted him Fourth Mate on July 13, 1859. On 6 June 1861, the crew received word that captain Frazier [Fraser] of the the Zone (Bark) fell from aloft and died, but Captain Wing boarded the Zone to see if he could help. The crew traded for supplies with the natives of Eoa Island on July 1, 1860. A whaleboat was stove by a whale and the Fourth Mate was badly hurt in the chest on December 13, 1861. The vessel was damaged in a gale on December 26, 1861. The keeper notes that there was a snow storm with hail on July 11, 1862. Other places represented include Turtle Island and Port Jackson (New Zealand). Whaling grounds include the Cape Verde, South Atlantic, South Indian Ocean, Coast of New Holland, and the Tasman Sea grounds.
