Old Time Radio

Throughout the 20th century, one of the dominant forms of mass media and entertainment was Radio Shows: Drama, Comedy, Mystery and Horror, as well as news and information, all presented in a purely audio format. Contained in these archives are thousands of hours recorded from these well-funded and talent-filled works.

Some items are entire collections within themselves of many-episode runs of famous shows. Many date from the "Golden Age" of Radio, the early half of the 20th century, while some are remixes or recreations of these works for modern audiences. A percentage are modern(ish) productions utilizing the best of what improved technology and hopes to capture the radio magic could offer.

The introduction of television is considered to be the death knell of this medium, but the works live on.

This is a single episode of Suspense. I uploaded the file to replace the existing file on page 2 of the main Suspense OTR entry. Unfortunately, that file ends a trifle abruptly; it is also of inferior audio quality to the newer file available on this page. EDIT: Since uploading this, the Old Time Radio Researchers Group has released an updated set of "Suspense." It is much improved over the previous collection available on Archive.org. The new OTRR set is available here:...

"When Radio Was" is a popular old-time radio (late 1930s-1950s) anthology series that originated in the Chicago area in the early 1990s by Dick Brescia Associates through Radio Spirits, a company that once published a catalogue of (literally) thousands of old-time radio programmes for sale on cassette tapes. (Ugh. What we had to go through in the days before gigabyte hard drives and cheap high-bitrate Internet access...) It was developed and initially announced by the company's owner...
