Sociologists, Dr. Karen Cerulo, professor of sociology at Rutgers University and Dr. Janet Ruane, professor emerita of sociology at Montclair State University, have written a new book on the sociological significance of dreams. "Dreams of a Lifetime: How Who We Are Shapes How We Imagine Our Future", a seminal work published by Princeton University Press this year, subverts received wisdom on dreams. It argues that dreams transcend individual hopes; they are a commentary on patterns of public culture and are influenced by a various indices, such as one’s social location and cultural capital.
