J.W.S. Arnold was a professor of physiology in the Medical Department of the University of the City of New-York. Arnold advertised his pioneering photomicrograph services for âcommercial, medico-legal, and other purposesâ in The American Monthly Microscopical Journal in the 1880s. This single volume of photomicrographs contains twenty-one images. A stamp on the inside of the book suggests it was donated to the Surgeon Generalâs Office at the time of publication.
