In the year 4220 of the Gaia Calendar, the Veldarth Federation discovers a mysterious power in an ancient ruin. With the power of Gaia once again loose, Veldarth wipes out the forces of the rival Dearsle Federation. The only troops left are the Armored Knight Corps led by Ervin Lambert, who begins a search for the crystals used by the ancient Kingdom of Elthlead. The crystals are said to have the power to summon the God Smasher, an ancient Guyframe, when brought together.
Gai Flame is a turn-based strategy game for the TurboGrafx-16. It was developed by Masaya and released by NCS in January 26, 1990. It is the final game in the Langrisser timeline, but the second in terms of time of release.
The gameplay is more similar to the original Elthlead, rather than the Crest of Gaia remake, because you have to move your troops on the overworld map, like in a war game, as well as on the battlefield. The old issue continues to persist: sometimes enemy units just don't feel like getting hit for a while, and you get destroyed. But at least in this game you can actually see if your attack has hit the enemy. You still don't see enemy health though. This game is significantly easier, however, and losing a battle does not guarantee a game over here.
The translation seems good, not counting the spelling of franchise-specific terms and names. There is one problem: the turn announcement always says it's your turn, regardless of whose turn it actually is. I’m not sure if it's a bug or a translation error.
