https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1wwkPSddg4 I aspired to make a reasonable length breakdown but there is just too much worth including. This hits closer to home for me as I saw a lot of friends do this at this age for similarly foolish reasons, however, due to the time, even at Butler University, even among the gender studies gays, NO ONE was puberty suppressed or had been put on testosterone in 8th grade. Absolutely unheard of in 2010. Things have changed a lot in a decade. As heartbreaking as both their waking nightmares are, making this and the ones still to be captioned has left me angry in a way that I'm surprised this movement was still capable of inspiring in me. They have no right to do this to young women - to young girls! The clots that form in a septic patient's vascular system are also then forming inside their brain and organs. This can cause lasting effects (pressure necrosis, ischemic tissue death, even more diverticuli, oh my!) that persist after bloodflow is restored. The end of the hurricane does not return you to before the hurricane.
No one, not her, not her doctors, currently, given that these were uploaded within days or at most a month of this, knows what lies ahead for her, medically, even if all the stuff they do know about were somehow reversible. The shock of sepsis can leave a person brain damaged and with a personality and cognitive functioning that does not match their intellect or character. It can leave a person with a brain that cannot remember how to stay awake or how to sleep. It can leave a person with a damaged kidneys, an underperforming pancreas, heart tissue death, or areas of bowel that have become ischemic and sclerosed. Some areas of the brain are also extremely oxygen-sensitive, so even a drop in blood pressure not severe enough to cause widespread cell death, still can cause severe and irreparable damage to the wiring of those areas, which then over time cause dysfunction in areas that depend on that area to function well.
Things fall apart. Everybody dies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
We have to then pay for that. ALL of the implications of that. FOR DECADES. One implication may be that she randomly falls asleep at the wheel in 5 years, due to undiscovered phalloplasty induced septic shock precipitated narcolepsy, causing a multi car collision that kills only the car with the people you care about. She's one person but how many Jazzes and Gruffins need to be on the road in that condition before the state says wait, maybe capitalism has gone a bridge too far. Maybe Albuqurque is before Kansas. Maybe we should have gone left.
This series documents a firsthand account, with supporting bills, of a trans man-identifying woman's personal tragedy that began when the medical system inflicted an endocrinological, developmental, and reproductive disability onto a healthy adolescent with, at most, but perhaps not even that, emotional/mood issues only, and has led to this 22 year old's new normal, with negative externalities that we will all get to pay forever. One such externality is being down a ventilator at unpredictable times.
This is episode 2 in this series. Episode one is She Just Wants to Pee!
