Every afficianado of ephemeral public-domain films is familiar with the gratuitous and ubiquitous "purple vomit sequences" that inexplicably appeared in a great number of these films over a twenty-year period. As yet, not one producer, crewmember, or actor who was involved in any of these films has volunteered a reason for these bizarre segments, most of which have been excised from prints currently in distribution.

In 1979, some friends and I were messing around with a video camera in a slum area of town that had largely burned down and never been rebuilt. The video camera was old, with a heavy, over the shouder separate deck, obsolete even then. We saw some stuff flying around the buildings. Originally recorded in about 1989, this was one of the first times using my Roland TR-707 rhythm composer and Fostex X-30 multitrack cassette recorder. Two tracks of Ovation Matrix 6-string were open-air miked with an Audio Technica AT-41, and then the two vocal tracks were dubbed in through a Boss RRV10 reverb unit. 25 years later, the original cassette was remastered for digital import into Adobe Premiere, so any degradation in sound quality is proof of the analog age in which it was first...

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was introduced to both computers and digital animation by the Commodore AMIGA. Recently I found quite a few old anims I made with DPAINT way back when.
