3. GIS Commons: An Introductory Textbook on Geographic Information Systems. https://giscommons.org (Länkar till en externa sida.) Comment: free GIS "book", open source. Good basic introduction. Of course much less detailed than e.g. Heywood, but a solid start for getting used to mapping and GIS.

4. Longley et al. 2005. Geographical Information Systems and Science. Wiley. https://ebookcentral-proquest-com.ezproxy.ub.gu.se/lib/gu/detail.action?docID=242974 -Länkar till en externa sida. Comment: More advanced overview on GIS with a deeper "scientific touch". Chapter structure does not just follow the classical GIS structure (data capture, storage/manipulation, analysis, visualisation), i.e. content are a bit more spread. Nevertheless a good alternative.
