Recently the work of the Russian photographer Sergeĭ Bratkow has steadily won international acclaim. His heroes are people in situations of individual extravagance, whether it is the eccentricity of the wealthy or the trickery of the poor. Bratkov's images breathe biting realism. In his works, bothe a collective past - which people have not reconciled with yet - and an individual restraint with regard to the future hide behnig the portraits. In his photo and video works Bratkov denounces the ideological cliches of the Soviet era and the stereotypical poses of the capitalist mass media
