Local environmental organization, Groundwork Somerville held one of its most popular annual events: the Maple Syrup Boil Down Festival at the Somerville Community Growing Center. Last Thursday’s State Primary election brought less than 10% of Somerville’s registered voters out to the polls. For four incumbents, the primary meant returning to their seats or stepping away. Three out of the four retained their seats. In a close race, one longtime legislator lost to the challenger. On Monday, October 22, 2018 a rally sponsored by Somerville Stands Together will kicked off at 4pm in Union Square. Somerville Stands Together, a coalition of local labor unions and community groups, is fighting for affordable housing, good jobs and responsible development. The rally called attention to the Board of Aldermen’s public hearing later that day concerning the transfer of the large, D2 parcel of land in Union Square to US2, the city’s developer of choice.
