Songs of Innocence and of Experience is an illustrated collection of poems by William Blake. It appeared in two phases, the first of which was Songs of Innocence, which was initally issued as a complete work in 1789.   This collection breathes the easy and spontaneous spirit of childhood which Blake views as an ideal state, free from the guilt, shame, bitterness and  regret of adult life.
