And hold on to your seat for a thrill ride through the heart of a microprocessor. This unusual experience is waiting for you in The Journey Inside. This family learning adventure follows 12 year-old Jimmy on his race to foil an alien plot to slow the advancement of technology on Earth. Along the way, you and Jimmy will learn how computer chips are made and be introduced to the amazing microscopic world of computer chip technology. You won't want to miss it."
This is, in actual fact, from VHS source - hence "Unofficial DVD". Intel made a VERY limited release of this movie to VHS shortly following its first run in 1994 and pretty much buried any acknowledgment of its very existence. They certainly never released it on DVD or Blu-Ray, and up until now a digital copy was nowhere to be found - trust me, I searched EVERY corner of the Internet - dark web and otherwise. Buying a copy is very nearly impossible - I got lucky obtaining this SEALED BOX on eBay for around $29 with shipping (initially the seller wanted $100+postage!) I live overseas nowadays - saying it was a chore moving it out of the USA is nothing short of understatement... partially due to COVID impacts on USPS operations, resulting in my package containing this tape being held at Chicago for 2 1/2 months as well as a local post office in Texas for another month only for the agency to return it to the person from whom I arranged its forwarding. I only recently received this tape, along with other personal effects - otherwise I would have ripped and uploaded it here either in late 2020 or mid 2021. Clearly there's a price to pay for a desire to see a movie you've only watched once in an IMAX theater in 1994...
That said, my birthday is approaching, and I want to share my presents - because I want you all to have nice things. Internet Archive has already given me well more than plenty in return (some of which I still have to recover and/or redownload due to a RAID conversion failure in late 2019... but that's another discussion entirely!)

As someone who studied microchip fabrication, I can confirm this movie explains the subject with authenticity. It's an excellent supplement for such training, and as far as I'm concerned is well more than worth preserving!
About the rip:
As mentioned, this is from VHS source. Commercially produced NOS, but VHS nonetheless. I need not explain to anyone who's ever seen an IMAX movie in its full glory in a proper theater that VHS is a gratuitous injustice to ANY IMAX movie - this one, in particular, ever much so. It's better than nothing, though - which, prior to this upload, was the only other option.
As my PC was uncooperative at the time I wanted to rip this, I resorted to perusing my DVD/VHS combo unit (please feel free to convert this to H.264 or any format you prefer!) It's recorded in SP mode and comes in at just under 40 minutes, with three seconds of "black screen" at the beginning and about 10 or so at the end. It will fit onto a mini DVD-R if you're so inclined. I had the option of XP mode which holds a maximum of one hour on a 4.7GB DVD-R (as opposed to two hours.) While I could have ripped it this way, I found no detectable increase in quality - if anything the quality decreased due to excessive picture noise associated with analog NTSC video. To me this would have been a waste of data (I'll be storing the image file on my NAS, and I'm also certain Internet Archive would appreciate the conservation of bandwidth!) That said, if it makes a a difference to anyone wishing to undertake upscaling the video, I can re-rip it in XP mode (my first attempt resulted in unnecessary overscan associated with my combo unit trying to create a PAL signal from NTSC source - needless to say configuring the correct setting helps!)
There's a tiny bit of distortion in a couple of spots that is typically associated with VHS magnetic tape imperfection. The worst of it occurs during the credits... if the soundtrack matters then this might be a problem. It should otherwise not detract from the overall viewing experience. Overall I'm highly impressed with the condition of the tape given its age as well as handling having passed through a multitude of logistics and customs facilities which I'm surprised didn't end up degaussing the damn thing entirely!
I did the best I could with the only publicly (barely) available crap source material. Again, it's VHS. The quality therefore sucks - that's a vehemently undeniable fact. If you want to bitch about it, contact Intel and tell them to remaster and re-release it in 8K UHD! They're the ones with access to the master 70mm IMAX source!
Perhaps then, with the aid of modern VR headsets, can we once again enjoy the truly immersive experience similar to that in an IMAX theater in 1994... until then we can enjoy the experience of postage-stamp sized video similar to that of a computer of the same era given the resolution of modern displays...

EDIT: LINK FIXED
It's been here (https://archive.org/details/journeyinside ) since 2020-08-31. Why this never appeared in my numerous searches is a mystery to me...
At least this is ready to burn to DVD... for anyone still doing that in 2022...

Never knew about this, but that's what I love about IA, finding stuff I didn't know I couldn't live without!
I clicked on that link in your review and it's nothing. Maybe it's just a temporary error but it says the item cannot be found, just fyi.
Thanks!
