The Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour kicked off on July 11th and has been
receiving stellar reviews in every city. The band has brought back original
guitarist James Iha and have created an incredible show showcasing those first
5 LP's he wrote and recorded on. Unfortunately, The Pumpkins were unable to
get D'arcy Wretzky back in the band and a ton of drama did pop up surrounding
the announcement of the tour in early '18. Based on D'arcy's and Billy's
comments, I wouldn't place a bet on any reunion of any kind with her.
Regardless, with 3 of the 4 original members performing 31 songs clocking in at
just over 3 hours, I don't see how anyone could walk away from this show feeling
let down. The sound was huge (a bit bass heavy, but huge!), BC changed into
different costumes, and the visuals were stunning including newly filmed pieces
playing in the background. The sound was fairly good but extremely bass heavy.
I did fix this the best I could in post. Huge thanks goes out to the lovely couple in
row L who switched me seats prior to Metric's set. This was one of those rare
occasions where my tickets were too close! The stack was literally right over
my head. We only moved back 3 rows (from H), but it made a world of a
difference. The crowd around me was fairly respectful during the 3 hour set,
however there were some talkers behind me at various points of the show.
Barely audible unless you are using headphones. I did raise some levels on the
quieter songs to better the listening experience. Also, you will hear some
pre-recorded interludes during the show featuring Mark McGrath introducing
songs and even James Iha once. This ticket cost me $152.95 (w/ all fees, which
I admit was high), but BC and the Pumpkins gave us all they had up there and I
respect that. Had this been a 90-100 minute plain-jane set, I would have felt a
little ripped off. For once, thankfully, I didn't feel that way. Enjoy this one.
